I took Alice to the vet today, same clinic but a vet she hadn't seen before.  The vet tried to get a urine sample from her and wasn't successful, supposed to take her back tomorrow.  This was about 3 hours ago and Alice is still being very vocal which is unusual for her.  She was obsessively licking herself but she has stopped.  I have had vets express urine samples before and I have never seen this reaction, though I am sure it's not kitty's favorite thing to have done.  Is this possibly a serious issue?  I am asking because if it is I will take her to the emergency clinic.  The regular clinic is open until 6 but if I take her back there it will be the same vet.  I was thinking maybe the vet was too rough and she is having spasms.

You don't say what she is actually doing now.

Why did he not draw urine directly from her bladder?

She did try but there wasn't enough.  Right now she is being very vocal which is unusual for her, she has stopped the obsessive licking.  It has been a little over 4 hours of her being very vocal.  At one point it did sound like she was in pain, now she is just being very vocal.

Denice, okay so her only problem is her sudden vocalization correct?

Yet vet was unable to draw urine from her bladder? This is unusual in itself.

Did the vet indicate any concern over crystals?

How old is she?

What's with the mention of spasms in your original post?

Honestly I think it's best to take her to ER, you never want to regret not acting on something that is possible so serious.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all........

If vet was unable to draw urine, something is surely not right going on.

She finally settled down and is back to normal behavior.

I think it's time to look for another vet clinic but I have to be careful because of Patches.  Our original vet left a little over a year ago when she bought an established practice in another state but I was happy with the vet we seen after she left.  She was actually the certified feline specialist in the practice.  I think there was a little milking extra fees from me but I can live with that because she knew what she was doing.  She left suddenly.  She called me with Patches results and told me that the following Friday would be her last day which is how we ended up with another vet.  When I was there today all traces of her were gone, no business cards still around anywhere nothing.  When Dr. Willis left I continued to see things with her name on them for awhile after she left.

I don't like how this new vet handled things today at all.  The tech took her to be weighed was gone longer than usual, brought her back and told me that the vet couldn't get enough urine and I needed to drop her off tomorrow morning.  I never did see the vet but in their defense I wasn't charged anything for today either.  I have never had Alice act like this after a vet visit and I am suspicious that she was handled roughly.  I also think it's rude that I never even seen the vet even though I wasn't charged, I did have an appointment.

It def. sounds like some fishy things going on there.

Honestly I never like when they take my cat to the back without me, I want to see and watch everything that is done with her, especially how she is handled.

You are probably correct to suspect some rougher treatment, your cat's behavior afterwards is showing you this.

That alone is an excellent reason to seek out a new vet.

Glad she is settled down, but I would keep a close eye on everything she does, when she uses her box, go asap and see if you spot any blood, or if she is posted in the peeing position too long, or anything unusual.

There are lots of times to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this isn't one of them.  There's simply no divided loyalty when it comes to sparing your cat at unnecessary discomfort.

This is the reason I don't like them taking them in the back to do procedures, which I was surprised was the norm.  Why can't you draw blood in the examining room?  I haven't had the cahunas to ask to go with them yet, but I don't feel the need now that I've changed vets.
