Forums are a great way to gather info on the internet!

Join one for your car - make and model.  There will be many tips, hints and tricks specific to your vehicle.

Do you own a home?  Join a DIY forum, and learn how to do many repairs yourself, safely.

I am on so many forums it is crazy!  I don't go to all of them regularly.  Some I only visit when I have an issue.

Is this what you meant???

TCS doesn't allow for posts that recommend other cat-related web sites:

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/239112/forum-rules

Solicitations and Promotions -
  1. Website promotion is not allowed, other than in a discreet link in your signature, or an ad in the marketplace forum. Linking outside the site is allowed where relevant, though we prefer to use the resources available on this site. Posts that are judged to be spammy in nature by the site team may get edited or deleted.
There are plenty of good cat-related web sites out there
Members would have to send you a private message with the link unless they already have a link in their signature.

Are there any particular non-cat / pet topics that you are interested in finding a web site or forum for? Maybe for a hobby you have?

Most forums -- well, NONE that I participate in -- allow posting of info on forums for the same subject matter.

Just use Goggle and search for what you need, like this: Forum Toyota Prius

Yup. That's a pretty standard rule. IMO, it''s actually not very good netiquette to ask for recommendations on a forum for forums on the same topic

Feel free to mention forums on other topics here and my advice is: when you join a new forum make sure you read the rules and get to know that community's "vibe" before jumping in.

Thanks, LTS3, for the reminder.

Normally, threads like this gets deleted because it falls under promotion. Always a good idea to check with the rules periodically -- they're in place to foster and support TCS' mission to provide a safe and friendly place for us cat owners.

Quick question why it against rules to recommended other cat-related sites? Is it because the site may haver inaccurated infomation or bad advice?

Its one of the possible reasons, although not the strongest one.    In fact, we sometimes do link to other good sites on specific info.

The main reason is to stop  spam, ie people making PR for their other forum, althoug pretending to participate in our.

Sometimes they do it very clear, and it is just to delete the post and possibly even the spammer,  for our mods.  Sometimes they pretend and do it sneakly.   It can become quite touchy - so the easiest way, is to stop such PR.

If you want to do PR anyway, and you think you do have a legitimate cause, contact our main Adm Anne here above, and ask.

Third. Although we are very open minded and giving help and service to forumists, both registered and non yet registered, (these are at least 10x the number of our registered memebers!!!)  even we are somewhat selfish.

If we managed to get here these visitors, we dont want to immediately lose them by giving away for free links to other, competing forums!

Its nothing mystical nor funny with this.  As mentioned earlier in this tread, this is the standard doing for almost ALL forums.

Like @StefanZ  said, forum owners work hard and put a lot of time, energy and money into promoting their websites and acquiring traffic. It makes no sense to work that hard only to send people away to the competition.

Honestly, The Cat Site has been my home for a long time now. I never even felt the urge to try to look at another cat related site.

I agree. I've heard that there is another cat related forum out there but I've also heard that they aren't as welcoming as this one and there's a lot of very judgmental people on it. I'll pass on that thanks. I don't bother looking because I can't imagine that there's a better one out there than this.

I do belong to a couple other forums but they have nothing to do with any animals. They are both related to freebies and finding good deals. I won't post their names but if anyone would like them they are welcome to ask and I can send a PM with the info or post it if it's OK. They are both reputable and I have gotten many great freebies from them. I haven't paid for a magazine subscription in quite a while with the exception of Cat Fancy (now Catster
) and I get about a dozen or so a month.

I am on a few other forums - this is the only cat one I am a member of (and can't imagine finding / being on another! ). I belong to a GSD forum, that I find is very similar to TCS in friendliness as well as providing vast information. I used to belong to a local car forum, but cannot stand the majority of them anymore due to their actions/judgments when my ex & I split  I do belong to a couple other vehicle forums - one for my diesel truck, one for my Mustang that I joined back when I first ordered the car in 2010. I don't check those near as often as I am on TCS or the GSD forum. Those 2 feel more like home!

I enjoy belonging to forums that are related to my interests, since it usually means the other members share those interests

I have a (very) small cat forum, but it's really just some friends and we talk about everything, not just cats. It's very private and not open for new members.

I'm a member of a couple food-related forums, a television forum, and a couple other ones. There's a political-oriented forum that I like to read, more so than post. A Barefoot Contessa forum

A tv-related forum that I really loved was Television Without Pity. Those members took snark to a whole new level. The forums are gone now and I always thought it was a bit of a shame. I loved reading the recaps of show episodes....the reviewers seemed to put a lot of time and effort into their reviews. I'll never forget the "Lying Liars who Lie". I could spend a few hours there, just reading. A perfect time-waster.

For gardening and such and remodeling stuff, I like to check out GardenWeb. I'm not a member there, but enjoy reading.

I love TWOP!! My favorite part is the super snark that is reserved for all the reality shows. Yes. It really is taken to a new level and I can get lost in it for hours.

Another way to get lost in some really funny stuff (not a true forum but..) is to go to Amazon and read the reviews for the Haribo sugarless gummy bears. It doesn't sound like it would/should be funny but some of them are so good that I literally laughed until my stomach hurt and tears were running down my cheeks.
