It becomes a problem if food is recalled or your cat develops an allergy to it or grows bored and starts refusing it!

I buy single cans to try out or email companies for a free sample. I read threads on this site and try a can of this and that, it seems a lot of people feed the same stuff!
I rotate 12 or so and two have carageenan and I have no problem with that! I found out what they like and feed it!

I have a cat that gets hooked on one brand and one flavor. If I try to change it up he won t eat. He gets 3 T of dry a day and 1/2 can of wet with 2T water each feeding. Right now he s obsessed with Orijen dry beef flavor. Tried the Six fish and he would not eat it . Wet he gets hill s prescription d/d duck. Tried the Venison would not eat it. He will eat BFF tuna and duck but again it s duck. He has an allergy to chicken because he recently had a UTI and had lost his appetite and theyneeded him to eat so they did give him food with chicken while was hospitalized.
Does anyone have ideas that will help me learn how to rotate his diet.

Thank you for that suggestion I will try that. That's how we found BFF the lady at the pet food store gave me a sample and he loved it!

Timed feeding seems to help. Also, try adding a little bit of new food to regular food and slowly increase the new food.

I also do timed feedings so they are hungry, I feed no dry, but if you do feed it last meal of day! My super fussy girl likes nutro natural choice chunky chicken loaf, Merrick duck or chicken Pate, tiki cat Puka Puka luau, Fussie cat tuna and prawns or tuna and whitefish, red barn tricky chicky, pride by instinct rockstar rabbit, daredevil duck and Luckys lamb. Treats are Purebites Dog size freeze dried chicken treats. (same as cat only bigger bag). This works well as topper also if crumbled! I got a sample today of against the grain chicken samba, they liked it and reasonable on chewy.com. It is like Weruva chicken and pumpkin.

He has to pate because he only has 7 teeth . Somehow though he manages to eat dry. I will try the timed feedinds as well as the fray last meal. When was sick with the Uti he lost weight and the dry helps put on weight. When I get him back to his prime weight 9.5 according to the Vet he s 8.6 now up from 8.2 I ll cut back on the dry.
Have you ever heard of Hounds and Gatos. It is really good food 98% protein. I tried the Pork but he would not eat it. I think I ll try again and add a little at a time as was suggested. Thank you for all your input!

I used to have Hound & Gatos (lamb, chicken, beef, and chicken/lamb/salmon) in our cats' rotation but they were never thrilled about it and then seemed to develop more of a liking for shreds anyway. Last weekend, though, I got a few cans of H&G to try on them again and today they really dug into the lamb, which was always their favorite. H&G has changed their formula to not have gums (previous thread with info) and I wonder if this batch doesn't have them even though the label still lists them. The consistency was a little different, a little less smooth.

I guess that may be true. It is 98% protein and domestic cats are not use to it.

I d like to try it again. I d like to try the rabbit. He did not like the pork and he can t have chicken. I only found it in 1 store in Charlotte and they only had 3 flavors and one was chicken which he can t have because of allergies.

When you do a rotation diet how often do you rotate. Daily, weekly, monthly , quarterly. What is the best on timing.

My cats are on a rotation diet. my 2 girls, Lilith and Sophie are very finicky. I keep a variety of canned foods that I give them and they never eat the same food 2 meals in a row. My boy Henry is a much better eater but I also give him different foods at each meal time so he doesn't get bored and reject something he previously ate and enjoyed. I think that feeding L&S the same food for a while was a big part of them becoming so picky. My rotation includes:

Nature's Variety chicken and sometimes lamb, duck, rabbit and occasionally venison. The chicken is the favorite of all 3

Pride by Instinct Chicken, lamb and duck

Red Barn Tricky Chicky (new to the rotation- it was a big hit)

Merrick chicken, turkey and duck pates (also new to the rotation- also well received- especially by Henry)

Nutro Natural Choice minced chicken, sliced turkey and duck pate

Wellness Divine Duos duck/chicken and chicken/turkey

Nature's Variety Prairie Homestyle duck & chicken stew and turkey & liver

Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken

Soulistic Good Karma and Harvest Sunrise

I use toppers with these foods. I use Pure Bites chicken breast and Stella and Chewy's tummy ticklin turkey crumbled onto their canned foods. They also eat some commercial raw- Primal chicken and turkey and Rad Cat chicken and turkey. This is currently being used as a topper in rotation with the freeze dried foods to get them used to eating raw.
