Picking up from my thread yesterday asking what food to buy a cat that just gave birth:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/posts/add/threadId/294350

I'm left with astonishment and wondering if I made the right decision to buy the food I did. I added the links to the food in hopes to help somehow, but I'm sorry if they are in Spanish

I bought a bag of Minino's brand food - Came out to around $1.14 dlls a pound.

http://www.solomininos.com.mx/  (Sorry, but I couldn't find an English site for this brand.... if there is one)

And a couple of Whiskas Gatitos Pouches (sobres)- Around $0.50 dlls a pouch:

http://whiskas.com.mx/productos-gatitos  (Sorry but this is also in Spanish)

I mixed about 1/3 of the pouch into the bowl with a generous amount of Minino's Kibbles.

Whiskas and Cat Chow came out to around $2.50 dlls a pound!! That's how much I usually pay for 2-3 pounds of dog food!

Kitten food was even more expensive I'm in shock that I don't even remember.

Is cat food always this expensive or was it just this particular supermarket?

Will the bought I bought be of any help for her and her babies?

I'm always thankful to the community for the quick replies in my many many questions

Just catching your thread now and sorry about the delay. I am going to post some of our feline nutrition articles for you to look over and hopefully that will give you some answers to your questions!! I know there are quite a few of these articles but worth perusing them and some of them will link to other great information too. Some may not be of interest but still worth a look.

Cat food in general is more expensive than dog food.  Cats have higher protein requirements than dogs which raises the cost of their food.  In general though, unless it's a small toy dog, cats eat less than dogs so it really works out to about the same cost to feed.

Yeah, I noticed that about the amount of food she eats. It's been since Thursday / Friday I bought the 3 pound bag and she's still not made a dent on it. I've also been including Kitten Food Pouches mixed in: about 1/3 - 1/2 a pouch in the morning and the same at night. The kibble is always available not to mention fresh clean water.

My dog is a Labrador mix, so he's huge  and eats so much I got into the habit of looking price per pound. Which is why I was so shocked at the price of cat food.

Thank you everyone for the help in my new cat-mom-hood and cat-gramma-hood

I have not looked at your other thread so don't know all details but I would definitely feed momma cat kitten food at this point. She needs extra calories too for nursing and just the stress of rearing young. Lots of canned kitten food/dry is best, I would think anyway. Glad to know that some of the links helped you a bit. I don't have experience with nursing mom cats or kittens, but would assume that momma cat needs extra calories and nutrition during this time. :vibes::vibes::vibes:
