Greetings everyone!

I'm Magiks or Mag or Magi... not at all related to my real name by the way.

I'm new to this site after searching for information about a cat that just had babies under my couch.

I was already friendly with this cat since about a year ago when she got (somehow) severely burned on her legs and I took her to the vet. After caring as much as she would allow, she made a full recovery (not considering minor scarring).

I named her Grin on a spot's notice when the vet asked her name to fill out a prescription for her meds for the recovery. She looked me straight in the eyes with her green eyes, I decided to name her... Green eyes.... Green.... sounds like Grin!

I was told she's a stray, but she likes to roam around the neighborhood and sometimes didn't come back for days. She started staying more and more, but not quite all the time. So I'm not sure if I should get her an ID collar with my contact info and then have an angry person scream at me over the phone or hold her for "ransom". (My neighborhood is not quite on the nice side)

We weren't able to locate her first 2 litters (?) of babies, but this time around, in a family effort, she felt comfortable enough to have her babies under our living room couch on Friday... the 13th! Yay! =D

I've started to find the babies homes to people I know really well, so far I have "placed" 2.

Her full name is Gato Grin, as in "Cat" in Spanish and I think she's an American Shorhair tuxedo cat. The father of the kittens, her "husband" I think is a common American shorthair (slender, gray with "tiger" stripes).

I'll try to be active here! Nice to meet everyone!

Thank you for looking after this beautiful girl.

Welcome to TCS.
I'm really happy to do so! The hardest part was convincing my parent's that it wouldn't be a hindrance to have her around instead of chasing her out. She's a really sweet and quiet girl when roaming around, but when I "talk" to her (by meowing) she talks right back!

I still don't know if I should get her a collar with my contact information on it since I don't know if she has an owner somewhere.  I hope she's not two-timing my family with another since she's never been super thin or fat
she just may be very good at finding food sources... I don't know

I hope I'm able to see her babies soon. She had them under the couch after dragging stuff to fill it up, thus, they are hidden under there. I don't want to take them out and have her reject them since I wouldn't have the time to take care of, as of today, 6 day old babies. She absolutely adores  me and my family, but I still don't want to take that chance.

The floor under the couch is cement and rather cold. The wall faces the sun from the outside, so I guess they would get some warmth from it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

My happy place.
It's lovely that you talk to Grin, I know my two love to be spoken to. It's a great bonding tool and I think she has definitely bonded with you and trusts you enough to have her kittens in your home.

It's a difficult one isn't it when they roam and your not sure if they have a home or not.
When you cared for her when she was burned did you keep her inside while she was healing?
If you did then I would of thought her owners would have been searching for her?
Is there any chance you could keep her inside now until you are able to get her spayed, this would allow some time to pass to see if anyone looks for her? And also to make sure she doesn't get pregnant again.
You are obviously a very responsible person who only wants the best for this little girl and to be honest she is better off with you anyway.

I don't have any experience dealing with new born kittens but there are many members and advisors here who will be able to help if you have any worries or questions.

Good luck with everything and thank you again for caring! :D

Talking to them is how I actually get the pets to trust me. My father says it's uncanny how much I sometimes sound like a real cat, so I worry I might be cursing them in their language and not even know it!

When I cared for her I couldn't keep her inside since she had just had babies somewhere (I saw her giving birth to at least 3 and then she moved them). The vet said to either keep her in and then the babies would die or let her go and hope she returned when called for her shots... which she did!

Yeah, there's not a big "pet is a friend" culture in my country yet for an owner to seek out a cat. People do  sometimes search for pets, but mostly dogs and I've never seen anyone searching for any  pet in my neighborhood other than my family.

I didn't want to cat-nap her in case she has moved her babies. She continues to go into where she first had then, but since we're not home all day or in the living room, we don't know if they are still there. We don't want to disturb her and the babies, so we don't want to move anything, I brought home a cardboard box yesterday and lined it with soft fabric in hopes she moves them in there, I also put in her water and food bowls. I'll check in today and see if it worked.

Thank you very much for the support (and praise!
), it feels nice knowing someone else also about these animals since I've felt against the current in my country where a "pet is a friend" culture is not yet that universal. Thanks again for the support!

If this is the case then I would just keep caring for her the way you are, as if she is your cat. I think she has chosen you anyway. :D

Keeping fingers and toes crossed that the kittens are still in your living room. :cross:

Again, good luck. You're her hero! :D

Welcome @MagiksGirl

You have come to the right place for information about your girl. I wish there were more people out there that cared for these stray cats as you have done.  I understand that you don't want to feel like you are taking someone else's cat but if they cared for her she would be with them.

I agree with @KittyWhiskers  that she has chosen you to be her guardian. You have done more than most people would. She is lucky to have a good, safe home with you and your family.

I hope so too! My sister says she sometimes hears them, but since we can't see them and keep watch on her at all times, everyday I wonder if she snuck them out. I really hope the box worked and she took out her kitties.

And thank you everyone for the assurance I'm not taking someone's pet. Everyone here seems to keep saying the same thing about that if she had an owner and was properly taken care of she wouldn't be at my house. Thanks to everyone, I've decided to make her an official member of our family.

I will also try to make a Cat-Page for her to update on her and her babies, because.... baaaaabies!!

Update!

My sister says she hears at least  three kittens meowing and that Grin rushes over! Also, that she has been feeding well on the food I got her.

So happy! I can't wait to meet the little ones!
I'll certainly post some pictures as soon as I can get some without disturbing the family! So happy I just wanted to share!

Update Again!

I thought she had taken them away so I looked into the nest. I saw at least 5 babies!

Please excuse the mess! She dragged all that stuff in and we haven't wanted to sweep or clean since we don't want to pick up dust and harm the babies.

In the pic below you can see at least 5 kittens! I shadowed each little body with a gray line... and the gray circle is a little face! I added the picture right next to it so you can see more clearly... well... as clear as can be seen! I think I see a black cat, a less black cat, a less less black cat, a gray cat and the face looks like a tortie! Though of course it could be just my excitement making me see things!!

PS: The pic was taken on March 24th, 2015. I didn't have a chance to post it.

This is the makeshift bed I made her and she never moved her babies in. It had a cloth at the top for cover. oh well...

The kitts are really moving and mewing! One even dare to try to get out of the nest! I was able to capture it on video, but the paw can only bee seen a little and his little face, so I'm posting a screenshot:

I'm told, as of yesterday March 30, 2015, they haven't completely gone out, they continue to mew and move the stuff around. They are really strong! They could pivot that long styrofoam candy cane all by themselves!

I'm so proud!
