What is your favorite dish to cook?

I think my favorite is good ol macaroni and cheese!  You can play it up so many ways by changing out or mixing your cheeses.  You can add things like lump crab meat and a bit of Old Bay seasoning to change it out.  Sometimes I add diced mushrooms.  Sometimes diced tomato.  Sometimes tuna.  You can use different styles of pasta too.  It's just a versatile comfort food to me!  I try not to make it too often; since it's not the healthiest.  But man oh man when I do; I enjoy it!  Sometimes I make the roux from scratch but other times I just use a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup (or broccoli or asparagus) as a base.  I love to top it off with hot sauce or buffalo wing sauce too.  Mmm mmm good!

Spaghetti (sauce), since there are so many variations and we always have either fresh tomatoes from the garden or what we canned ourselves.

Does baking count? If so, I love to bake bread. There's just something so comforting about the smell of fresh bread coming from the kitchen.

If not, I don't know what to say. I just like to cook.

If and when I cook it's usually chicken curry which is very tasty and quite spicy.

uh......toast?

Sorry, I'm really not much of a cook.

Lol
Lately I've been making pan seared fish with a mushroom and shallot topping. It's easy enough for me to do.

Have you seen TheKitchn.com? It's a good web site to learn cooking basics and recipies. There's other general kitchen stuff there and stuff for more experienced cooks.

Risotto.  Like mac and cheese, you can doctor it up in more ways than I can think of.  From a plain one, to seafood with saffron (Milanese), to hearty versions with beef or lighter ideas like spring veggies (asparagus and fresh peas a fav).  Different flavored broths, cheeses and wines used yield different tastes as well.  A simple dish, but one that requires some attention while cooking but oh so satisfying!

My absolute favorite is one made with fresh mushrooms - lots and lots of them.

Lasagna   It takes alot  of time to make it but its so good.  I always make 2 square glass dishes then make up 3 foil  container dishes to freeze. Love it.

Lately, meatballs. I love having meatballs and gnocchi (which I buy, I haven't attempted my own yet). My 2 year old gets really excited when we are having meatballs for dinner. To her, meatloaf is also meatballs. I made a meatloaf for the freezer yesterday and my husband labeled it "big rectangular meatball".

Homemade gnocchi aren't all that difficult to make, and cook quickly.  I've made them a couple of times and while the packaged are perfectly acceptable, homemade are a lot lighter - totally different texture.

Winchester Winchester I'm with you on the bread (when I have the energy )...only thing is, I can make bagels from scratch no problem, but if I make bread without the breadmaker it never comes out right :confuse3: :lol3:

Other than that, just baking in general so long as I'm not feeling rushed about it. Weird thing is, I'm not big on eating baked goods...my family get the benefit! Go figure. ...

I used to love to make chicken and homemade noodles.  Now that it's usually just me I don't make it very often.  It's one of those things that I can't make just a little of and it doesn't freeze well at all.

I guess my favorite dish is what I call Camp Soup. I got the recipe from an ex BF and I still cook it to this day.

It's quick, easy and delish.

One of my faves these days is throwing a lean pork roast in the crock and letting it do it's thing all night.

The next day I can make fab carnitas tacos, the day after I make enchiladas in green sauce. LOVE!

Do the cats ignore the crock pot and the yummy food smells? I want to use my crock pot but I have an Aby who's way too curious for his own good
I can just see him pushing the entire plugged-in crock pot off the counter  to get to the food inside
I have an open floorplan so there's no way I can close off the kitchen.

They don't mess with the crock pot at all, but they sure act anxious for their breakfast after smelling it all night!!

Crock is way too heavy for them to move, I bet they could get the lid off though, however the heat will keep that from happening.

Maybe put it in the bathroom!!
