Still no poop :sigh: She's obviously back to the 'normal' part of her pooping cycle! The vets have to send the urine off for testing. It's a big practice in terms of number of vets because they cater for large and small animals, but they don't have many facilities on site.

Asha's doing well today. I haven't been able to spend as much time with her as I'd have liked today, but I hope to make up for that this evening :rub:

My young cousins (owners of Coco on the 'ears' pictures thread) have sent Asha a moving in present! It's one of those three layer plastic toys with a ping pong ball in each layer. She's not quite sure what to make of it yet :lol3:

Glad she is feeling better.  I bet her digestive system just needed a rest.  She should poop today/tonight.
I hope you hear something soon.

My cats have one of those toys.   Only my outside feral, Stellar likes it.  He goes crazy for it.  My others prefer the round one with a scratcher in the middle.

:jive: Finally got stool sample :D

I was right, Asha's back to normal poop again. It seems like she has a cycle of three days of diarrhoea, one day of nothing, two days normal poop, then back to diarrhoea again :confuse3: Well, at least I should have some answers soon. I hope it's nothing major. I'm slightly inclining away from eg giardia as a cause, simply because I'm pretty certain I'd have it by now too. But hey, what do I know?!

Asha's well in herself, and that's the main thing for now.

I hope that they can get some results soon.

Wash your hands often after cleaning the litter and after petting her too.

I do try to wash my hands after being around Asha, but I'm having difficulty remembering to do pretty much anything at the moment so it's a bit hit and miss! I know it's bad of me :anon: All I can do is try..

The on again off again stool is odd, and if it was a parasite one would expect more consistency.  But don't attribute your not getting giardia as proof of anything, it isn't easy for people to catch, unless you're ah grooming your cats behind with ah....well i won't go there but seriously I've been around countless cases of giardia and coccidia and never caught it.

Like I said, I'm just speculating ;) The test results will hopefully give me the answers I need to move forward with Asha. And no...I'm not grooming Asha's bum :lol3:

when my cat had giardia and tritrichomonas foetus that's how her stools were, i'd have a day or two of normal poo then back to loose stool again it was a rollercoaster until I did the PCR stool sample and got my diagnosis and treatment

Oh know.  I would call the vet and let them know.  Will they get the results before the weekend?  Hopefully they can advise you on what to feed her.  Poor sweet Asha something is causing this mess for her.

I called the vet this morning and left a message.

I'm feeding that chicken breast and pumpkin cat food I mentioned previously, along with goat's yogurt. I've reduced portion sizes further and am feeding every 2-3hrs (unless I'm with her and she's fast asleep ;) )

The vet (I know from previous experience) will say either light diet or withhold food. I'm not convinced that withholding food every other day (which is what it would end up being) will actually help Asha.

She's fine in herself - I put a raffia and ribbon attachment onto her pole and line toy last night and she went wild for it :D She had another big play session with it this morning, and was jumping on and off the desk and her crate, and was almost doing back flips! That is not a sick cat

All I can do is wait for the test results. I'm not majorly worried about the poop - its the pee volume that's most concerning in a way. Certainly that was the vet's bigger worry. I'm really hoping that all this is rooted in malnutrition issues, because I know how to fix that.

I'll update as I have more news.

Is she on metronidazole or tylan to help resolve the diarrhea while the results are pending?

And Fortiflora or Proviable probiotic? These have high colony counts of the beneficial bacteria, promoting her gut cocci/rods that should be there. The metronidazole/tylan knocks back the overgrowth of bad bacteria, clostridia. She'd really benefit from these treatments while her fecal tests are pending, as she loses water and nutrients in diarrhea.

Glad she has some intermittent regular stools, so she's not losing excessive amounts.

Her activity and energy level is too good to consider dehydration or lethargy. Prophylactically medicating her now is advantageous, and won't harm her. Since it can at best, treat her diarrhea, and at worst, do nothing to change it, there is no reason to wait to start these meds.

Hope she has a completely treatable parasite or bacteria overload, answers you can definitely work with.

The vet didn't want to medicate until we had the samples, as meds could skew the test results. I'm really hoping to have results tomorrow, and I'll keep on with the live goats yogurt in the meantime. If there's no news by tomorrow (my vets do a Saturday morning surgery as standard) I'll ask about prophylactic meds etc. I am encouraged by her activity and general demeanor - if she weren't so well in herself I'd be far more worried.

New development...Asha vomited tonight :(
Foods been exactly the same, and small meals etc.

Today was like this -
1st bm (from overnight/early morning) normal, finishing a little soft.
2nd bm (9.30ish) soft but just formed
3rd bm (2pmish) full blown diarrhoea
Nothing else till after dinner (I was late with it due to my IBS  ) I fed her just after 7 pm
Between 7mins and 9.15pmish she had 2 more bms, both diarrhoea and threw up all her dinner
All bms, even the most normal one, we're mucusy.

Unfortunately, I put her latest feed down before I realised she'd been sick. I won't be giving her anything else for at least 12 hrs, possibly longer. That's especially true if she's sick again.

I'll be calling the vets in the morning. I may take her in, but I'm not sure they need to see her again until after test results come back. I don't see the point in taking her up there if they can just as well prescribe etc without seeing her.

She's still very well in herself. Unless you knew she'd been sick etc you'd think there was nothing wrong.

Hope I'm doing the right things. If I'm missing something obvious do tell me. I just want to know *** is going on with her :sigh:

Poor Asha.  Something is really upsetting her belly.  I hope hope they have results tomorrow.  If not I hope they can give you something to quell her digestive system.

Keep the food away, but offer lots of water.

I am so sorry she is not feeling well.

Asha feels fine. She demanded a game tonight and played until she was breathing heavily. It's her tummy that doesn't - and it doesn't seem to be communicating that fact to the rest of her! I keep trying to explain to her but she won't listen  I'm going to have one cross little girl by morning.

I've had to be out all day :sigh: Not fun...pony decided she was scared of her wormer...:confuse3:

Asha was fine when I left. No more poop or vomit then. Mum's been seeing to her today, and hasn't mentioned anything yet.

Spoke to the vet. She said urine test results are back and clear, but she's still waiting for the stool test results. In the meantime, she wants Asha to go onto a veterinary gastrointestinal diet. Can't get it before Monday though. I'm pretty sure she'll give us royal canin, which I'm not very happy about. I'd rather feed animonda integra protect gastrointestinal- shorter and purer ingredients list (they list cereals - rice4% but I emailed the company and they said rice is the only cereal in it) - but I can't get hold of that until Wednesday /Thursday. I'd appreciate any views/experiences. My experience of royal canin has not been good. I have an aversion to any cat food that needs to list 'various sugars' in its ingredients!

I think the issue of nutrition is secondary to the illness and symptom control.  You could also feed human baby food chicken stage one, very easy on the tummy, but doubt that diet is going to be the cure....

I am not thrilled with the ingredients found in prescription pet foods, but they do work.  Our previous dog had digestive issues (uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea from a giardia infection at a young age that left her system raw) and was on Science Diet Low Residue.  As long as she was on this food, she did not vomit or have diarrhea.  As soon as we took her off or tried to take her off, she was once again sick.  Our current dog has been on Royal Canine Urinary SO for years.  Once again, the ingredients are not my choice for her, but she gets raging UTI's without the food.

Hopefully with Asha she will only need to be on it for a short time and then you can transition back to better food.

Hopefully the results are back by Monday.
