Vomit...Again!

So, a year ago this month, my cat Little Girl was diagnosed with histoplasmosis.  We fought and we won against the terrible fungus.  Since she was declared healthy again, she has maintained a normal weight, nice pink gums, active, playful and good looking poops and pees.  We have just never gotten rid of the vomiting issue.  It use to be piles of undigested food.  Now...it's puddles of clear fluid.

Up until November, she would throw up maybe 2 times a month, usually always in the early morning hours.  I thought that she had too much stomach acid, so I always made sure that she had some food in her bowl when 5am rolled around.

Then, we went through three blessed months where there was no vomit!  She didn't need her nausea medication.  She didn't throw up.  It was fantastic!

About two weeks ago, she threw up some food and a pretty large hairball.  Now, it seems that she's throwing up the clear liquid once a day.  The only different between now and that three month period is that she was drinking purified water and we switched back over to tap.  Could the water be making her ill?  I need to take her back in for a check up when I get some funds.  We are also out of nausea medication.  Lucky us, right?

I am seriously at my wit's end, because we can't solve this throw up problem!

The only thing i can tell you, unfortunately, is that you really need to get her to a vet.  Throwing up with this frequency is highly abnormal and may be a sign that something is seriously wrong. Many vets accept care credit, which is an interest free credit card (so long as you make the monthly payments) that you can be instantly approved for.

I really encourage you to get her the vet help that she needs. Unfortunately the people on this forum are not vets and cannot help you diagnose or treat her.

The problem is that the Care Credit card I have is maxed out because of her previous treatment. I'm still paying it off do that isn't an option at the moment. The vomiting is a known issue that we have been dealing with her entire life.

I was just wondering if anyone else had suggestions or had dealt with this in their cats before.

Clear liquid vomit can be caused by excess stomach acid. Maybe you could call your vet and ask if it would be ok to try giving a daily dose of Pepcid until you can get her in. Don't give it without getting the vets ok though. Is she still eating and drinking and acting normal? Maybe try switching back to purified water also.

Everything is normal. She had mentioned using Pepcid before but I'm a little leery of it. How much Pepcid should a 9-10 lb cat be getting?

She was on Cerenia for nausea but we've run out until I can get back in to see the vet.

get a 10 mg tablet and cut it into fourths. give a 1/4 piece once a day.

basically, the dosage is 0.25 mg/lb once a day

just make sure to get the 10 mg tablet and not the 20 mg tablet.

Again I would call the vet to ask about exact dosing but I think it's normally 1/4 of a 10mg pill.

Now that I'm thinking back on a conversation I had with the vet a few months ago, 1/4 of a pill sounds about right.  I'll see if that doesn't settle her tummy!

Hi. I have a 10 y/o cat who has been a vomiter all her life. Now the vomiting is more frequent, like once a day, once every two days, sometimes twice a day, other times no vomiting the entire week. I've taken her to the vet...everything is normal. She's had complete blood work twice - once in October and again in December. Her organs are functioning well. She had an abdominal ultrasound also back in january, which was also normal. I'm so depressed at this point, as I don't know what to do next. I gave her Pepcid as directed by the vet and that did nothing :(
If you figure something out, please share.
Thanks

Cerenia is amazing. It was what Little Girl was on until we ran out.

There was still no vomit this morning! Keeping my fingers crossed that the distilled water is doing the trick.

So far, no vomit since we went back to the distilled water.  Maybe the water here in my town is really the thing that is making her sick.  It's already known to be back in the first place.
