I guess I am lucky , my friend Iris has a beauty salon and does my hair for $ 40.00 dollars . The usual price is $ 60.00 dollars .
I'll say you are very lucky. My last hair appointment(about 1 month ago)cost me $160 I almost fainted when she told me what my hair cost me
I told her that I only wanted to go to a darker shade of blonde not to buy the salon.

Oh well live and learn and then fiqure out how to do it yourself

Glad you got your hair straighten out Tammie I kind of like that shade of lavender

I color my hair myself too, and can only imagine if I saw a color other than I expected when I was done <G>...but...that was a lovely shade!

My only oops was when somehow I went from the light blonde color I'd chosen (my own light ash blond had faded to brown) to a funky red...it became an interesting experiment on being treated a certain way based on your hair color (this was back before funky shades of any color was just not being done). My patients kept calling me "red", asking if I had a temper etc <G>.

Hey Tamme, I think it's a pretty color. I can understand you being upset when it didn't turn out the color you expected though.

When I was in high school, I went swimming too soon after a perm, and my hair turned green! Luckily I have dark hari, but you could still see a greenish color in the sunlight. I went to my mom's hair stylist, who put red dye in my hair to counteract the green. Then I had lots of red highlights. The green was pretty funny though, and I probably could have gotten away with it if I wanted. . . it was the punk rock era, after all.

Tamme. It looked so pretty. Sorry about the botch up though, Mum would never let me die my hair, it's always done by a professional but at least I suppose it always looks really good(and mum pays
)

WHAT'S wrong with lavender?

Seriouly, though - what brand of hair color did you use? I've been coloring my own hair, for 30 years and only got a bad color, once. I will never use a Revlon dye again. I use L'Oreal Preference or Excellence (whichever I have a coupon for) and have had no trouble at all.

Actually it was a Loreal product. It was Feria. I always use Loreal too. I think the ends of my hair were just so light that they soaked up all the toner. I ended up having to use the Loreal Color Remover Kit and two colors of preference to fix it. The color remover kit was nice. I've used others before that were so much harder on my hair. The Loreal kit is a powder that you mix with the included peroxide or with warm water. They suggested I use warm water so as not to damage my hair since it had gone through so much that day!

To keep your hair in good shape, there is some stuff called "Cholesterol". Most beauty supply houses have it. Its a thick, gloppy cream and you slather it all over your hair, wrap it in plastic and sit under the dryer for about 15 minutes. A hairdresser turned me onto this stuff, when I was 12 and I've used it ever since. After two BAD perms, it helped me to get my fried hair back in shape.

Wow, i guess i've been lucky. I used the L'oreal Feria stuff, and it turned out fabulous. I recently tried the Herbal Essences streaking kit and it's soooo easy and turned out just the way i wanted. Can't beat it for $9.99 a box (cad).

Thanks Cindy. I used to use Colesterol when I was a teenager but forgot about it. Luckily my hair stays pretty nice but it wouldn't hurt to use it as a prevetative measure!

Jacklyn, it wasn't the Feria. As I mentioned, it was that my hair was so light it picked up the toner. Would have happened if I used the same color from any brand. My hair was a very extra light platinum blonde.

I've been lucky with hair colour so far. I've done my own hair 3 times, and each time, it came out the way I wanted it. The second time was a little light, and this time, it's absolutely perfect. I use Clairol Natural Instincts (Rosewood). I've had my hair done at the salon a few times, and was never completely satified... so I tried at home. Though I must admit I'm nervous when I do it myself, because I hear these horror stories (a bit like yours, mzjazz2u), and the last thing I want is to have to show up at work with jet black or bright red hair and have my customers worry about what I'm going to do to their dogs!

I had one client ask me to dye his male dog's hair light pink
as a joke for his daughter, but I said "no".

I've dyed my own hair since I was in my early 20's. I've only had 2 YIKES since I decided to go red about 5 yrs ago. One time I picked up Dark Auburn...and turned PURPLE - a deep burgundy purple! This summer I picked up Feria's Copper. I towel dryed my hair, took off the towel, and fell on my butt! MY HAIR WAS ORANGE! Bright carrot orange! I put on a hat and ran to the store for another kit! I had to wait 24 hrs before I could re-dye so I walked around with that hat on all day! At 24 hrs and 3 seconds the new dye was on my hair!

I didn't wait 24 hours and wouldn't!
And the Loreal consultant told me I didn't have to. Thank God!

I've been dying my own hair since I was 13 (32 years)! And I've only had 2 OOPS!!
So I've been pretty lucky. Both times Loreal has told me what to do and it worked. Did you know that Loreal is what all the beauty salons used back before around 1975 when they went on the public market?

Cindy, I'm going to buy myself some more of that Cholesterol. I have a beauty supply store near me where they'll sell to the public (except for perms and I think color.) But in the meantime, yesterday I did buy something called Moisture Miracle Emergency Repair Kit. I'll have to find my reading glasses to see what is in it!

I think this thread is highly bias towards you lot who have hair!!! My wife says I have nuclear hair - it has too much fall out, my work colleagues say I have fly away hair= its so far flown away off my head and into another country.
I used to have a lot more and started losing it - I was on a farm watching some sheep get sheared and I fell in with them. The next thing I knew was I was flat on my back with some big bloke holding my body like a sheep and the rest is history .zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz all over the top and sides and now am kinda used to it.

donations gratefully accepted

I used to use the wash in/wash out color. One time at work, one of the girls asked my why my hair was pink. Since she was a, well, you all know, I said "cause I want it that way". Actually, I hadn't noticed it, it was such a gradual fade. I went back to my office and looked in the mirror. Yep, you could say it was pink. Oh well. Now, it is just gray. I refuse to go thru all that to cover up what I have earned!

THAT'S what happened to me, with the Revlon stuff. I used color remover and went right back to L'Oreal.

I am determined to DIE, as a blonde or redhead! To heck, with that awful color, growing in at my temples. Just because I AM somebody's grandmother, doesn't mean that I have to look like one!
