One of my cats doesn't like wet food. Not even food with a drop of water. I feed my cats primal freeze-dried food. And also ziwipeak air dried food.

(I am a student and I make raw meat for them once a week)

I am so afraid that the air dry and freeze dry food are too dry. I tried to introduce wet food&can food and raw meat to my cat.(Like ziwipeak can food, or

primal raw food)

2 of my cats like them very much however one of them refuse to eat any wet food. She has a lot of scurf like things because she doesn't drink enough

water.

I saw a article online which recommend FortiFlora to cats. I am wondering is this good? My cat obviously love it. She eat wet food after I add the

FortiFlora powder in it. But I am afraid of the side effects.

Do you guys have any recommends for the raw food? Any brands? Is primal cat food and ziwipeak good brands??Thank you!! Please give me some advice!

Hi Tsui!

I can tell you that fortiflora is just fine to use on canned food everyday, it will not hurt him and can actually be very good.

Slowly sprinkle less and less, very gradually over time so some day he wont need it since it's not cheap.

But yes, it's fine and will not hurt him at all.

It has animal digest in it which cats love.

I just don't understand why Fortiflora works so well!!! My cat never touch wet food before~ Now she looks like Fortiflora addicted. I am afraid it is like drug to human, there will be side effect to her.

So far she love Fortiflora a lot.

The main ingredient in Fortiflora that makes it so tasty to cats is called pyrophosphate. It's also known as "kitty crack", so yes, you're right that it's sort of like a drug to human. This is why a lot of cats become kibble addicts and refuse to eat anything else. Purina is a big maker of a lot of cat food on the market, which also includes Fortiflora. I've never used it before mainly because I don't really like its ingredients. "What is animal digest?", you're thinking, right?
As defined by the Association of American Feed Control Officials, digest is produced by the chemical or enzymatichydrolysis  of clean animal tissue that has not undergone decomposition. These animal tissues may not include hairhornsteethhooves, and feathers, with the exclusion of trace amounts that are unavoidable even after acceptable processing methods.
However, when getting your cat to eat wet food, it can be a great tool used during the transition. The probiotics in there seem to work only for as long as you give it. If you want to give your kitty probiotics but without the pyrophosphates, you can simply use human grade probiotics with plain, unflavored yogurt or go to your local health food store and get the human grade supplements (in capsules) and sprinkle some on their wet food. Either will be much cheaper than Fortiflora, btw.

If you're interested in what is in kibble and its flavorings, here is a link:

And to hear Purina's side of its animal digest/ingredients:

Versus another:

So who to believe? What's really true? Good things to think about, isn't it?

I feed my cats raw and good quality canned food. I think Ziwipeak is one of those premium brands that are on the better list of quality food. Commercial raw is a bit tricky--some are great, others not as much as I'd like, due to their added vegetables and fruit contents. Popular commercial brands are Rad Cat and Vital Essentials, though my two prefer my local brand due to their more chunky texture. I've tried a brand called smallbatch, which came in 2 lb chubs in rabbit flavor to be a success, despite its very finely ground texture. The sliders didn't do so well with my two, so I know it's more about texture than anything else. One brand I'd love to try would be Feline's Pride, but I've never seen it carried in my local independent store, and I hate to pay for shipping/packaging if I ordered online.

Good luck to you!

First, thank you EmandJee  for so many useful information!!

I found Fortiflora weird is first because it smell really like some dry food and cheap treat. Good news is my cat love it very much and she started to eat wet food!!!What a miracle!! But I also found it is almost impossible to reduce the Fortiflora. She will only lick on the wet food which covered by Fortiflora!!

I read a lot of books before I started to feed them raw food, there is a book called what cat should eat. And then there was a recommendation list in the book.

Ziwipeak can food is not on the list! That's why I try to find some other can and raw food.

My feeding list was

Ziwipeak can food

Ziwipeak air dried food

Primal Turkey freeze dry food

After reading that book I started to try Rad Cat and Answers.

After reading your suggestion, I started to doubt the recommendation list in the book. I try to feed my cats with the best food in the world!! Thank you for your information again! I will take a look at your recommendation!!

Freeze dried raw foods can be rehydrated for a few minutes before serving. You wouldn't want to leave hydrated food left out all day but it's fine to give your cat hydrated food for a meal

Nature's Variety Instinct has both frozen and freeze dried raw food. Stella and Chewy's is another good brand in frozen and freeze dried but there's a backorder or something at the moment so finding the food is hard. I've seen Vital Essentials at the pet store but haven't tried it.
