Good morning.

Today's question is Did you go shopping in The January Sales? What did you get?

I'm trying not to spend any money unless it's on something absolutely essential at the moment, so I didn't check out the sales. I'll have to shop vicariously through TCS members.

So tell me, what did you get?

I haven't gotten anything this month. Our biggest sales are Boxing week (Dec. 26th till 31st), but even this year I didn't buy anything. It's really only good for electronics and some clothes, but electronics weren't on a good enough sale and I didn't have time to go home between work shifts to shop with my mom.

Also, since @Winchester mentioned the whole budget thing and I realized how deep in the hole I was getting myself every year living on my own, it's good I haven't bought anything.

I remember the New Year's sales in Japan!

Sadly, there haven't been any decent sales locally. I think a lot of stores might send their extra stuff to stores like TJ Maxx or Tuesday Morning instead of doing big sales like they used to. Or maybe I just don't shop anywhere good ;).

I was searching for a pair of snow boots for my son; they can be ridiculously expensive for one season's use!  But no luck.  I ended up buying some off Amazon for him.

i did find an Elsa canvas print for my DD.  She's one of the many many many little girls who is into the movie Frozen.  I found the print for a good price and we called it a birthday present.

Some software for the laptop and a Samsonite case for the laptop

A pair of Under Armour long underwear (Rick bought for me)

Other than that, it's just standard stuff, like groceries and gas

Some toiletries (shower gel and body butter) and a tablet case. DH bought several guitar items (tuner, strings, etc.).

I have picked up some things as gifts for next Christmas. I shop like that all year. I make a list, wrap the things and by Christmas I am done.

I bought a pretty dried wreath I've been admiring for a while, saw it on sale and it was only $5! We are going to use it for the theme this year, it is very natural-looking with pine cones and twigs and very muted red burlap-type bows. It has a little dusting of "snow" on it - I just think it's so pretty! Now I'm excited about Christmas this year lol!

We are buying a tv next week. Ours broke the week after Christmas when the boxing day sales had just ended.

I didn't plan on it, but I did. I took some belts back that my mom got me for Christmas from Kholes, & ended up spending $70.00! BUT, I got some really good sale & clearance items. There was a dark teal purse that I had looked at before, & wanted, but it was 59.00, so I never got it. It was on sale for 35.00, so I did!   I hadn't bought a new purse in probably 8 yrs. & had just been rotating old purses, so I didn't feel guilty about it.

I also got some pants on sale, as well as some really marked down stuff, like a pair of crop leggings marked down to 4.50, a 25.00 T.shirt marked down to 7.00, etc....

I usually don't have much extra money to go shopping like that, & have done my fair share of consignment & Good will shopping, so I was happy to get to do that & feel good about the deals I got!

I broke down and bought a new laptop.  Got something fairly basic since I don't game on it any longer.  It's a Dell, was under $300 before tax and we got free shipping from Amazon Prime.  That's my big January purchase and hopefully, the only one.
