Hi all, just before Christmas my cat had a lump on his head just above his nose and I only noticed how big it got at Christmas. A few days later I saw that blood was running from it and the lump had gone? I dabbled it and then it dried up, and had a few scabs, recently it's starting bleeding and puss is coming out of it now. He keeps cleaning it himself but when he does that the scabs come off and cause it to bleed again! I googled what it could be and people say it's an abscess, I'm just so worried! :( any help?

I would get him to a vet. If it's open, oozing, and/or bleeding, best to have it thoroughly cleaned and get some antibiotics to prevent infection. It's best to consult (even just call) a vet as soon as you see anything abnormal. While many vets will advise that you go in for a visit, they are willing to talk about possibilities and whether or not what you're seeing is normal over the phone. Always better safe than sorry.

In the past, our older cat had an abscess that burst and he ran a high fever and was on death's door. Thankfully he was able to get to a vet (he was hidden away for a few days, but the people watching him assumed he was just exploring outside for a while), but if not for that, he probably wouldn't be here today.

It's not an open wound or anything it's just like a cut and it has a few scabs, which he keeps making bleed. He is still eating and drinking and is still like he normally is. He doesn't seem in pain but I am going to take him to the vets if it doesn't heal anytime soon. And yes he does go outside but not as much as he used to. Thanks :-)

Looks like he got a scratch from another cat and it became infected. Keep the would open so it can drain it is actually good he is keeping it open. If you can flush it with very diluted chlorhexidine it will keep it clean. It will keep leaking during the draining and healing process.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too! He has had a few fights with a cat up the road! Thanks for advice :-)
