Is this possible?

I've mentioned ongoing problems with my IBD kitty in other threads. There are a lot of ups and downs. The vet sees her every two weeks for a weight check, because she had been losing a lot of weight. She had an excellent visit a week ago. At that time, she had not vomited at all in 17 days and had gained 12 ounces in two weeks. The vet was stunned. The increased appetite and weight gain was due to the cyproheptadine. During the weeks leading up to last week's visit, I had not fed her any wet Wellness sliced salmon because she had apparently stopped liking it. I had instead been feeding her the usual dry Blue Basics duck food and the Canidae canned duck food--not alternating with the salmon. This past week however, since the last visit, she has again changed her mind about what she likes. She still likes the dry duck food, but will not eat the wet Canidae duck. I have starting offering her the Wellness sliced salmon again, and lo and behold, she seems to love it again. The problem is she has vomited three times this week, each time after eating the salmon. This is a food that she has tolerated in the past.

Is it possible for my cat to suddenly not tolerate a food that she has done well on in the past, or is this just one of the "lows" of the disease?

If she no longer tolerates the salmon and has stopped liking the wet duck, I am really out of options for wet food. All of the others either have ingredients that she cannot have, or she hates them.

When I was giving her the cyproheptadine twice a day, she loved and could not get enough of the wet duck. It mysteriously changed when I began giving her the cypro once a day.

I think it's possible. My cats don't do well with canned food with carrageenan, which Wellness and Canidae have. I also heard that many cats get sick from Wellness. Blue dry food has potatoes in it, and I believe it may be hard on IBD kitties, too.

I read your other posts... have you tried raw? You can get duck grind with no additives. You need to add some supplements, like taurine.

Also, there are Smallbatch and Halshan, if you are in West Coast.

Yes, unfortunately they both have carrageenan, but she wouldn't eat any of the other foods I tried that did not have it, such as the Nature's Variety LID wet duck. She is VERY picky. I have never tried raw. I'm too afraid of giving her harmful bacteria. She is a dry food addict, too.

Some of commercial raw foods are high pressure treated to kill bacteria (Primal, Stella & Chewy and Nature's Variety). Also, there are freeze dried raw. Our cats go crazy with Stella & Chewy's freeze dried duck.

Maybe you can cook duck meat and try?

I avoid carrageenan myself, because it always gives me diarrhea, so I don't feed my cats either.
