Hi all,

I have a kitten, she's about 2 to 3 months old. The usual feed is sardines with rice, about table spoon of rice and third of sardine can. I feed fish or chicken from time to time. I feed her twice daily, in the morning and in the evening. Is that ok? is it enough? is it wrong? thanks for your comments in advance.

Just Sardines and rice would not be a healthy balanced diet .

Such a young kitten should have kitten kibble available at all times I think  , she should be able to eat all she wants .. Rice is not good for cats . It not their natural diet and too many carbs in it ..  In my opinion it would be best to feed a grain free kibble supplemented with a good quality grain free  canned diet .. I think the Sardines would be ok as an occasional treat as long as they are packed in water and salt free ..

I agree with 2Cats4Me, it doesn't sound like a balanced meal. They say you shouldn't feed a lot of fish, but instead more chicken, turkey, beef etc. I would also provide more meals than just the 2 as kittens need constant food and energy as they're growing so quickly! If you're not able to provide more canned meals (grain free), then leave some kibble out so she can eat when you're not home.

If you read through some of the food articles, that should help clarify some other questions/concerns as well :)

You need to be feeding a food specifically formulated for cats. Preferably canned but at least kibble. A cat is not going to be healthy on rice and sardines.
