Angelo was around 4 weeks old when I pulled him out of a ditch on the side of the road. He was covered in fly eggs, and had massive facial trama, along with extreme dehydration. He shouldn't have pulled through, but he did.

A couple months ago, some of you may remember, I accidentally slammed my little boy in a door, breaking 3 ribs & causing bladder and posterior paralysis. He shouldn't have walked or peed on his own again, but he did.

2 weeks ago he was treated for ring worm and a nasty URI. This all cleared up nicely, and he was a happy healthy kitten until Wednesday night. He refused 2 meals, and spent 3 days in the hospital. He crashed rapidly. FIP the vet suspected.

This morning, I let my little warrior rest when his entered liver failure. The attachment I had to this sweet boy was unreal. He taught me the reality of the veterinary field, to be persistent & not give up on cases like his. He also taught me about forgiveness, love, & the art of acceptance. He was only in my life a few short months, but I know God put him in my path for a reason.

Even as I rocked him in my arms, when I knew we only had minutes left, he reassured me. He nuzzled my cheek & placed his paw there, as if to tell me "Its okay mama, I know". I told him he'd been so strong for so long, but now it was time to rest. I asked him to stay close to me, always. I love him so much, & the pain that's ripping through me right now is unearthly. Run free sweet angel. Mama loved you so.

I am so sorry.  You did all that you could and gave him peace when it was time.  This little kitten knew what it was to be loved, cared for, and have a place where he belonged.

whew, I have read many many heartwrenching "goodbyes" on here and experienced my own a couple months ago, but never have tears rolled down my cheeks before until reading yours... not sure why as my heart aches for all of our losses on this board. God bless you as you go through this sadness, as I know what it feels like.

I'm so sorry you lost little Angelo. His life may have been far too short, but it was filled with love. :rbheart:

My heart breaks for that precious kitten and what he went through in his short life, but I am so thankful he found you to help him and love him through it. we all cry for the loss of such a sweet one. You went above and beyond and did all that could be done, but sometimes it still is not meant to be and we will never understand why. You shared your love with him, and I know he returned it a hundred fold, may God bless you for helping this precious baby and giving him comfort in his life. Please accept my condolences for your loss, and though it is so hard, try to not dwell on his death but to celebrate what you two shared and pass on his legacy, the great love that existed between you and him. I'll cry and keep you both in my thoughts and prayers, take care of yourself. RIP beautiful Angelo, the heavens gained a beautiful angel, please watch over your mommy and comfort her if you can!

Thank you all so much for your kind words. I'm missing my little man incredibly. What @DiandBob said about passing on his legacy made me think. I've decided I'm going to do a donation drive for some of the animal rescues I work with, and submit the proceeds in Angelo's memory. That way other babies like him can have a bit of comfort that they need so desperately, & his love will be passed on to others. Every night since Friday I've woken & heard his distinct little meow. I know hes with me still. Watching the other cats look for him is the most horrible thing. Even the dogs. My head of the house Melody has been howling in the night. It's awful.

My heart goes out to you and your bereaving animals. Only time will help to soften the pain now. Bless you again for thinking of that donation drive in your sweet Angelo's name, I think he would be so proud to know he helped save a little one in need. Several times a year I pay for the adoption of the cat that has been at our local shelter the longest, I do it in my Chrissy's name, and sometimes that is all that is needed to find these babies a home. I know your Angelo is trying to comfort you, he feels you are grieving so much. Talk to him, he'll always be your heart. Good luck, keep busy, and please give your remaining babies a kiss from me.
