Hi I dropped him off this morning and on my way to pick him up now. The receptionist got it wrong and results werent in this morning but maybe now or tomorrow. I mentioned about calicivirus today as he has been getting a reddish discharge from his nose. They are testing for more things today as his heart was kind of irregular this morning going fast then normal. The vet is happy to support me with trying to get him better as there has been improvements. He has lost a little weight he was 1.8 kg now hes 1.75 kg but he didn't have breakfast before been weighed. His temprature was a little high this morning but the drip today should help lower it. Thanks again I'll let yous know what the vet says this evening

I'm so sorry to hear this. How is he doing now? What does your vet think? Hugs and strength for you both.

Not really sure what can be said to make you feel better right now, but I am so, so sorry to hear this. I was really convinced it would be something else. :( I can't imagine how you must feel right now, but both you and Teddy have been in my thoughts and prayers since I first read this thread and will continue to be. Hugs for both you and beautiful Teddy <3 <3 <3

Yeah I was convinced it would be something else. I ferl awful now getting him neutered incase that affected him in a bad way. Dunno if he was born with it or not hes very small for 7 month. I can either let him go now or give him steriods to give him abit longer. He would need isolating from the others to. Feel ive let him down so badly. No idea what to do for the best for him. Im devastated cant stop crying, I dont want to get him put to sleep as he hates neeedles so his last moments would be full of pain.

You haven't failed him at all! You've been an excellent owner, caring for him and taking him to the vet on time. Anyone who's read this thread can see you've really tried your best.

Don't hesitate to PM me if you feel like talking, I'm here to support you and anyone else who may need it.

*hugs*

You did not let him down at all! You had him neutered because it was the loving, responsible thing to do, and you wanted Teddy to have the best of everything. I sincerely doubt that it had anything to do with his FIP presenting, and it absolutely had nothing to do with his catching it. You've already said that he's a very small kitten, so he's probably been fighting this for a long time now.

I have been so impressed with how dedicated you have been to getting him well, and how prepared you were for an emergency like this to happen. You have nothing to blame yourself for. I don't know that there are many people who would have been more ready and willing to get the best possible care.

A smart friend of mine told me this when I lost the best cat ever last year: You feel guilty because you feel horrible, and your mind is trying to come up with logical reasons for how horrible you feel. Your mind is going to be really awful to you for a while to come now; it will supply you with all sorts of things to feel guilty and bad about, and none of them will be true and most won't even make much sense at all. You're going to feel them, and it's going to be awful, but just try to remember that they're not real. They're just your mind trying to make sense of how sad you are.

If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. I mentioned earlier that it wasn't long ago that I was taking care of my own terminally ill, beloved cat. I'm here for you if you want to talk about anything that you're wondering about or feeling. PM me any time.

I'm so sorry.

Dispite looking dreadful on tuesday morning as soon as i made the apointment with vet teddy started playing so it wasnt the end for him yet. He has eye drops and anti biotics for 10 days now and im going to get teddy checked out by the vet at the end of next week providing he doesnt go down hill. For the moment he is improving. Alot better on his feet and walk about alot more, his pupils are huge but his eyes are open alot more, his temprature id normal and glands in neck arent as swollen ect if it definetly is fip though i know alot of cats make improvements initially then go down hill but at least we have some extra time.
He looks so poorly bless him and covered in food so may have to attempt to bath him if i csn do it without stressing him to much

I'm so sorry to hear that he is sick.

I don't know very much about FIP, isn't it something that all cats have but only causes problems in certain cats?

I hope your boy still has a long while left with you.

@norachan, no, not all cats have FIP. It's Feline Infectious Peritonitis. See http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_infectious_peritonitis . Incurable, and fatal, but not immediately.

@crazypetlady, I'm so sorry to hear about your Teddy. I hope Oliver's been vaccinated? Also, you might ask your vet whether a vaccination would do Teddy some good. The shingles vaccine in humans is effective even for people who've had chicken pox, and who therefore have the herpes virus in their bodies, because it alerts the immune system to be on the lookout for this virus, and try to fight it off. Extrapolating, there's a chance that the FIP vaccine could be effective for infected kitties. Won't cure it, but might extend their lives and increase their comfort levels for as long as they have.

Caveat: I'm not any kind of professional health care provider, just an intelligent lay person who's generally good at coming up with the right questions to ask.

@Margret  Thanks for the link. I was confusing Feline Coronavirus, which is very common and usually not that serious, with FIP which I now understand is a mutation of FECV. I still have so much to learn, but it's great being able to come on to TCS every day and learn from other's experiences.

@crazypetlady  I'm so sorry to hear about Teddy.

You're welcome, Norachan. I didn't know what it was, either, until I did a Google search on it. There are so many nasty ways for cats to die that it's easy to get confused about them.

This is going to be very hard for Oliver. When the time comes, try to make sure that he sees Teddy's body, so he knows his buddy is dead. Otherwise he'll think Teddy's gone away (or that you sent him away, which is worse) and will be constantly looking for him to come back. If Teddy dies in the hospital, try to get a visitation for Teddy. And make sure he knows that Teddy's death hurts you, too. Don't let him think it was your idea, even if you have to decide for euthanasia.

I am so very sorry to hear the news about Teddy.  In no way have you let him down.  People who abandon cats, or don't take care of them or are abusive of them are people who have let cats down.  You have done everything you could to give Teddy a good life and make no mistake about it, he knows that.  I know so little about FIP.  I have only encountered it twice with my sisters cats and both times, the first test came back positive and because the vet knew there could be false positives, they were tested twice and it turned out they didn't have it.  But I tell you that very cautiously.  I know it is still referred to as a mystery illness because there is still a lot of unknowns about it.  You just keep doing what you are doing and Teddy's life, for whatever length it is, will be good.  You are a good kitty mum and both he and Oliver know that and love you for it.  You, Teddy and Oliver are in my thoughts.
