Hi everyone :wavey:

Today's question is -

Do you have any allergies ?

None that I am aware of :lol3: Although I did once get bitten by an insect on vacation and my whole arm swelled up. Not sure what insect it was though - I think it might of been a horse fly :D

I have a June grass allergy on and off. They developed when I was in grade 9 or 10, I believe, but they're inconsistent so there will be years when I have peaceful sneeze-less summers... and then there are times when I'm popping antihistamines like candy and still oozing out all my headholes.

YES. Way to freakin many too. Growing up sucked, always having to go to the doctor to figure out what I was and wasn't allergic to. I have grown out of a lot of them as I've gotten older. At one time I was allergic to all of these things:

RAW: Apples, pears, potatoes, carrots, kiwi, strawberries, cellery and walnuts.

Funny thing is, I could eat all of those things cooked just fine, except the walnuts. My mouth and lips would get itchy and especially with cellery I would get hives. Now at the age of 23, I am still allergic to cellery, kiwi and walnuts. I still get a little tingly eating apples and carrots but nothing to the extent I used to. Needless to say benadryl is my best friend.

I'm also allergic to ground mold and have super crazy spring time allergies.

Only one that I know of, brown spider venom.  Actually it was a good thing because I had the full reaction, giant hives and breathing problems so I ended up in the emergency room.  That meant the bite was discovered before infection and necrosis set in.  I am originally from an area with brown spiders and I remember some people ended up with really bad wounds from the infection and necrosis.

Too many: seasonal pollen allergies, pectin (i.e., most fruits), cats, metals (other than gold, platinum and titanium) and some natural fibers. Like denice denice , I once ended up in the hospital following a spider bite (brown recluse).

I just had a reaction to honey the other night.  I've felt a little itchy with it before; but not like that.

I have some seasonal allergies (they were WAY worse when I was a kid). I'm also allergic to bees, kiwi, avocado and we think the MSG in some Chinese take out places food.  I am also allergic to some metals and the antibiotic Minocin.

I had a horrible reaction to something in 2008; we never figured out what!  I went into work and my armpit was itching.  By lunch my arms were breaking out in hives.  I was working for a doctor at the time.  I walked into the medical assistant's office to talk to her and I'll never forget it.  I felt the hives just crawl up my face at the same time she gasped and said 'your face!"  When the doctor saw me he said "you need to go be seen!"  That was the biggest perk of working in a doctor's office.  I called my primary doctor's office and told them who I worked for and that he said I needed to be seen.  They were like "come right in!"

It was bad though.  I was covered in hives from head to toe.  It took 2 different steroids and Benadryl to get it to stop.  3 weeks later i was still getting a hive here and there.  People were staring at me in Walmart while I wandered around waiting on the pharmacy to fill my prescription.  My husband had to help me cover myself in calamine lotion to get relief!  I ended up working through most of it.  I told them it took my mind off the itching.

Which reminds me; I did miss one day of work during that time.  So my answer to my very late question of the day from Monday was off by a year.

I was never allergic to anything. Anything. Ate what I wanted, did what I wanted. Never a problem.

A few years back, one afternoon my lip started to tingle, followed by burning, followed by swelling. Bad swelling, to the point where it looked like somebody opened my lip, stuck a fat grape inside, and sewed it shut again. That bad. After going to several allergists and some blood work, it turns out that I've developed an allergy to pretty much every over-the-counter pain medication known to man. Advil, Aleve, Excedrin for Migraines, Tylenol, aspirin, baby aspirin, you name it, I'm allergic to it. Including my old blood pressure med that worked beautifully to keep my BP down to a normal roar. Oh, and Halls lozenges.....allergic to them, too. Most cold meds, too, in fact. I have found that Benedryl is my best friend. I also carry an Epi-pen with me all the time, just in case.

Why? I haven't a clue. I didn't take it all that seriously until I took some Tylenol late one afternoon for a bad headache. I was desperate at that point for any kind of relief, even though I know that Tylenol is pretty much useless overall. Woke up around 3:00 in the morning and my throat and my tongue were swelling up. My eye was almost shut. That scared me. Haven't had any OTC pain meds now for about 18 months. If I have any kind of pain or an injury with swelling, I just use ice.

I did find some relief at our natural food store. Traumeel is a pain-relief ointment that I use on my knee when it flares up and it seems to help (it did nothing for the tendon problem in my foot though). Similarly, turmeric or curcumin  seems to help with my headaches and migraines. 500 mg daily. I'm not advocating anybody try it, but I was at the end of my rope and desperate enough to try anything. It works for me.

Sometimes when we're at our local grocery store and I handle produce, on the way home I can feel my lip tingling. It doesn't get to the point where it swells or anything, but I know something's going on. Something must on some of the produce at the store; it's the only thing we can think of. Doesn't happen all the time.

I used to live on Advil for my migraines. Some days, it was the only thing that got me through my day. Now? I either deal with it or I stay home from work and stay in bed. I was referred to a migraine specialist, but because it doesn't happen that often, she really didn't want to talk to me; she said she only dealt with those who had debilitating pain all the time.

Oh, and I get poison now, too. Never, ever had poison ivy. I do now, Have it on my right hand right now.

I'm allergic to penicillin and I have seasonal allergies. I have a reaction to latex, but I've never been tested for it so I can't say that it's an allergy. If I wear latex gloves, I get an itchy red rash all over my hands.

My Aunt said she started having reactions from melons and things like that.  She figured out its the pesticides and things that get sprayed on them.  If she washes them thoroughly before slicing she doesn't react!

I carry an epi pen for my DD.  She has had mild reactions to peanuts in the past.  Because of the nature of peanut allergies; I have to have one for her just in case.
