Two years ago I moved to the Middle East to volunteer with at-risk populations. While there, I would up doing more humanitarian work than I expected! I found two kittens on the street near my apartment, by an abandoned building. They were nearly dead and crawling with fleas. I took them in and bathed them, then nursed them back to health. After they became healthy enough by chance I was able to find them a loving home with a family who had been looking to bring some fluffy love into their home.

After returning to the US for 6 months I returned here in February again. And sure enough, once again, I found stray kittens. The first three found homes quickly, and the 4th my friend is taking care of. However one last kitten has become terrible attached to me and no one will take her because she has one eye. As it was with every other animal that I have rescued in the past, she chose me. Now I could not possibly see leaving her. As my time here comes to an end and I must once again return to the US I find myself trying to get her back with me.

I'm looking for suggestions about transportation and US customs, experience aboard international flights with cats, with airlines, etc. I am somewhat concerned because my friend who brought  cat back with her from the Peace Corps incurred over $1,000 in feeds to get the cat into the US.

Help, cat lovers, help!

Thank you so much for your efforts and caring.
I fell in love with several stray and some blind cats while I vacationed in Greece but knew it was impractical for me to take any home. My resident cat would have strongly disapproved.
Each and every country has its own rules and regulations regarding bringing cats (dogs, etc) into the country; the rules are very specific to the country.
You should contact the Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals; email [email protected]. ESMA has a handout "Taking your Pet out of Egypt" you might useful. Also Pets on the Go has an international database.
You should check these resources frequently in case rules and regulations are updated; at least, that's what I learned in Greece.
