If this is in the wrong topic, please move :
I was in Lowes earlier and they had their artificial trees out for sale already. I can actually have a tree! New home, got the room for it, I want a tree!
For a while I was thinking of a real tree. Has anyone had success of having a real tree with cats? I worry about them drinking the water and eating the
needles.
Then I saw this old style tree with white tinted plastic needles and plastic pine cones and lights. Fell in love with it! But i

It is expensive. I wouldn't need to decorate it with ornaments because its so pretty as it is!
Tell me your stories of cats and trees, so I can decide which tree to get.. and if I should!
how are you and your furbabies getting on in your lovely new house?

Surprisingly, they're leaving the tree alone. Pretty much ignoring it for the most part. Occasionally, I'd find a pinecone or an ornament on the floor but nothing bad at all.

I bought a 6' tree at Target for $60 (its actually a very nice tree for that price!), and got the ornaments from the dollar store (about 12 ornaments for a buck, can't beat that!). i didn't want glass ornaments or anything expensive just in case the cats destroys them.

They're loving their new home. Much roomier to run around in, and more windows to watch out of! Took them about a week.. longer for Monet. he didn't handle the transition too well, but he's loving the home now!

We also did a tree on a table. Cats can't jump on things from a 45 degree angle, by placing it on a table and bending the branches, you can achieve this effect.

You don't have to short yourself on Christmas just because you have a cat.
I would stay away from real trees because most types are toxic to cats if they keep eating the needles.

Hang your good ornaments high enough and stay away from tinsel type garland if you give your cats mylar toys. It's too confusing for them.

Our cat couldn't resist this one ornament in particular (even though it looks just like 20 other ones we have. Don't know why he singled this one in particular out to die..). So we invested in the ssscat system. It's only 20 bucks on Amazon. He only needed to step in front of it a few times before he learned that the tree was off limits. If your cat is particularly persistent on murdering your tree, I highly recommend looking into it.

We've had Alley just a couple of months and as some of you know, she's a barn stray. We brought our real tree in today. I was worried that she would go crazy, (I've seen the Tempation treat commercial) but she spent less than a minute being curious and went on to play cars with my son. She did bite a branch and swat a leaf that was still stuck on the branch but that was it. I guess with her growing up in the wild outdoors, trees are just not that exiting to her. She's the best little cat ever[emoji]129303[/emoji]. Very chill and laid back, except during her two witching hours. I should also mention that we have not decorated the tree yet.[emoji]128533[/emoji] I'll let y'all know how that goes. Good news, our family room has a door, so when we're not home we can just pull the door shut [emoji]128521[/emoji]

Well, as some of you know after losing Angel last February, I had a sweet new little girl show up on my porch labor day weekend. I had only seen her twice before. Well, long story short, she hung around long enough that I finally gave in & fed her, then as they say, the rest is history! I took her to the vets on Nov. 7th for shots, etc.. FIV negative! so that's good. Angel was always pretty good about leaving the tree alone, so it will be interesting to see how Sammy, my new little girl does.  I have a 4 or 5 ft. tree that I put up. I put it up on a table that is normally next to a chair in the living room, so I just scoot it over to the corner, & put it up there. Being up on the table & up off the floor, helps it to be more "kitty proof" so I hope that's still the case!

Last year, I didn't put up a tree at all, since I Angel was going through chemo. I didn't want to stress him out at all, so my mom bought me a little table top spruce, that I put a few mini decorations on.

Here's Angel checking it out from the cat tree. This was 2014.

We just put up our tree on saturday. We always get a real tree :)

Of the 4 cats we have had, none of them have ever bothered the tree (other than maybe batting at the ornaments on the bottom branches)!

Zazzie, Kiwi and Tesla are good kitties! I was worried that tesla would try to climb the tree since this is only his 2nd christmas with us and I didn't know if he would remember not to climb it (he was a tiny baby last christmas, 7 weeks old).

Anyway, pictures!

Tesla was being a good kitty :)

They took turns laying in the Garland pile while my mom and I were decorating the house last night:

This was Tesla last year (he did pull off a bit of the garland from the bottom of the tree, but that was the only thing he did).

And a few of Zazzie and Kiwi:

I apologize for so many pictures I just love my Kitties [emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji]

It's pretty! Some beautiful pictures too, some of those could be your Christmas card!

My cats don't eat the tree at all. They do, however, like to climb in it and hide. We have a fake tree and they are always either climbing in it or hiding in under it in a corner of the room but they don't hurt it and it doesn't hurt them.

The tree lasted 20 minutes before being knocked down, due to the weight of three black furry decorations putting themselves on the tree at the same time. I thought they would be less interested seeing as last year they were just kittens, but now they are too heavy to climb it but do anyway.
