In my search to find food without  carrageenan I bought a couple of cans online of Hound and Gatos  for my 5 month old kitty  to try and I'm disappointed to say he doesn't seem to like it.      He's not a picky eater at all. He eats Tiki Cat, Natures Variety, Weruva, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Soulistic but with Hound and Ganos he sniffed it and walked away.       I left it out this morning, went to work and when I came home he barely touched it.    Very disappointed because there aren't many foods without carrageenan.

I have one more can left and I'm going to try again.  Though he's not a picky eater he's not the type of kitty who eats his food in one go either.  He eats a little and will go back to it.  I wish he would eat more  sometimes but he doesn't seem to be a big eater.

Argh, its very frustrating to find something you're looking for only to have them turn their nose up at it

Personally   I would not even worry about it . So he does not like that brand , you  already have 6 brands that he likes and will willingly eat ..

My cats absolutely refuse to eat wet food of any kind .. I really would love for them to eat at least one  ..

It is frustrating when they turn their little noses up at the expensive food you researched and bought for them. Oh well, at least you have the other brands. And you just never know, more and more companies may start phasing out the carrageenan. We can hope.

There have been many comments that Hound and Gatos is a good food on paper, but many kitties don't seem to like it. The chicken flavor especially. It is a very plain food, so perhaps kitties that are used to getting food with blueberries or carrots can't get used to it.

Offhand, for no carrageenan there's:

Tiki Cat

Wild Calling!

By Nature (organic line)

Halo - stew varieties

Weruva

This thread discusses different brands without carrageenan or guar gum. But you should double-check before buying. The thread is old, so some brands have changed. Paul Newman's, for instance, added carrageenan a few years ago.

Unfortunately, he didn't like Hound and Gatos but I did discover that Blue Buffalos Chicken and Turkey is without carrageenan.    It seems to be the only one in their line without it.  :(

Try mixing hounds and gatos with something they do like. I mix 5oz of cowboy cookout, with 3oz of chicken h&g. works for us.

I've been lucky in that all my 6 cats really like Hound and Gatos, especially the Lamb. They don't all like all the flavors (I've tried them all), but the Lamb continues to be a big favorite.  I've been feeding them H&G for almost a year and they've all done extremely well. No health issues whatsoever. And two of my kitties did have health issues from foods they used to eat.  The very simple, meat protein based formulations of H&G  really agree with my feline brigade.

I know this thread is kinda old, but I'm curious if anyone has tried Hound and Gatos with toppers on it? Like freeze dried treats (Pure Bites)...I'm wanting to switch from fancy feast to this brand. I've tried the lamb chicken salmon flavor or whatever it is, and they were slightly interested, but not THAT interested. Since then I've discovered how useful and magical Pure Bites are! I bought some Sheba turkey canned and usually my one pickier cat would sniff and walk away. But I sprinkled some crumbled turkey breast pure bites, and he ate it! No complaints! So now that I've discovered how to get my cats to eat any flavor, I want to get the healthy food and use pure bites.

Just wanna know if anyone has tried this!

With my one cat Wiggies, I have to use toppers on pretty much every food, even the stuff he really likes. I think it's fine as you're getting them to eat their wet food. Something like Pure Bites is healthy.

Our cats love the lamb, which they eat regularly, but weren't thrilled (at all) with most of the other flavors when I tried them out on them a couple years ago. I wonder, though, if they'd eat them with Pure Bites! They'll eat just about anything with Pure Bites.

A similar brand is Wild Calling, which is priced similarly (and reasonably) where I live. Our cats hated Wild Calling, though. They barely touched it and looked at me like I was the meanest person on earth.
