Hi, I just came upon this site and think it is great....so informative and friendly. One word of warning...I don't post often, but when I do I tend to ramble. Sorry, but like probably everyone else here I just loooove talking about my critters.

I live on an acreage in the sticks. I currently have 5 indoor cats and 4 outside guys, 1 very patient border collie and 13 pet ducks.

It's wintery here now so the outside ones spend most of their time (and every night) in the heated garage. I've had George and Harley for a couple of years and they get along fine, but the other two were this summers dump-offs and unfortunately aren't fitting in. I'm taking them in for neutering on Monday and then, sadly will relinquish them to a NK sanctuary. The biggest one got into a scrap with my Harley and bit him so badly on his neck I had to take him in for stitches yesterday. I'm confident he will be fine, but I sure didn't need that extra expense. Oh well, I just hope they find good forever homes.

All my critters were strays or rescues. The 5 inside ones came about because I brought home a cute little female that was going to the spca. Unfortunately she was pregnant...hence 4 kittens. All are grown now and "fixed" and create whatever daily havoc they can. We love their antics so don't mind giving them their household freedom. They have almost more furniture, beds, pillows etc. then we do.
And trying to fit in around all this is my poor dog. As you can imagine, cats being cats, they try everything they can to bug and torment her. But, she gets back at them plenty too!

I had to put my Scooter girl down this summer (cancer). That's where my name comes from (obviously). Losing her is still very fresh. She was my lone companion for many years and, even with all these other purring cuddlers I still miss the heck out of her.

Anyway, enough for this "hello" post. I will enjoy reading about all your kits and hopefully be able to contribute something from time to time.

Cheers,
Corinne

Welcome! We LOVE to talk about our kitties....well, especially me
so look forward to hearing more from you.

Sounds like quite a brood you have there, bless you for taking in the dumpoffs, some people
and condolences on your loss of Scooter. Your cats don't chase the ducks? Sorry, know nothing of pet ducks.

Welcome Corinne!

Wow 13 ducks! Your kitties don't go after them?

Hello also to George and Harley, the indoor family, and your very patient collie!

Thanks for the nice welcomes!

Unfortunately, I don't have either a scanner or dig. camera, but I'll see what I can come up with for pics.

Yes, the rescue situation is unfortunately ongoing everywhere isn't it? I appreciate the thanks for giving them a home, but we enjoy them so much that it's the kits and my doggy that I like to thank for picking us. (Even the mom and dad ducks were orginally dumpoffs, if you can believe that) We've lost friends (so-called) because we have so many in the house. Like I'm going to lock them all away because these "friends" are coming over?...yeah right! What's wrong with a little cat hair on the seat of your pants anyhow? LOL You'd think in this cold climate people would be grateful for that extra layer of warmth on their backsides! I can't imagine life without any of them.

superkitty: Cats can indeed be deadly to ducks, but my gang are a bigger breed (the drakes being almost as big as the cats) and they're also in a fenced area. George and Harley regularly scale the fence and spend the day in the barn. The ducks and cats aren't friends by any means, but they seem to respect each other and give a wide berth whenever passing. But stray cats??...no, I wouldn't trust them, but so far haven't had any bad experiences. Knock on wood!!

Thanks again,
Corinne

Welcome, Scooter! It's a good place to be. That fur family of yours sounds wonderful. We promise not to pester too much for pics, since you don't have a digital camera, but just in case nobody mentioned it, WE LIKE PICS

Sorry for the double posts above....don't know how that happened??

But, if someone could help me learn something here I'd appreciate it. When I went to delete the second one it told me that all posts after it would also disappear. Is this true or did I just misunderstand? I'm fairly new when it comes to this forum stuff, so don't have any experience beyond typing and submitting.

Thanks,
Corinne

Corrine, I also had a cat named Scooter that I had to put to sleep due to cancer (except he was a boy cat) two years ago. I know how rough it can be.

Welcome to the site!

Welcome to the site Corinne! Thank you again for taking in the unwanteds.

About the double posts, it is a glitch that happens sometimes on the site. Hopefully it will resolve itself with the next software update.
No big deal. We're kinda used to it! LOL The message you got only applies if it is the first post in the thread (which actually isn't allowed to be deleted by members since there are replies.
).
