I saw a kitten hit by car this morning, in the side of the street in a puddle of blood, twitching like grasping for air. I looked at him and his face could not stop because of heavy traffic and because I'm an idiot and I suck. I feel like ****. This image will haunt me for weeks and I am so sorry I didin't stop to take it to a clinic or at least pick him up and be with him until he passed.
I'm going to pass by again at noon, for what? to see if he's still there, and see in my imagination if he forgives me. I hope he passed quickly and without pain. But I feel inhuman for not having taken any action. I'm so sorry.

Please don't beat yourself up about this. While tragic, likely there was very little you could have done. If there was heavy traffic, you may not have been safe stopping.

Those things haunt us forever.  They cannot be unseen.  I'm sorry for you and sorry for the kitten.  I pray he passed quickly.

So very sorry for your pain. Sending you much love and many hugs. I witnessed some horrible cruelty to a stray some months ago. I did not act quickly enough and it too has stayed with me. We do the very best we can for all animals, and sometimes like everything else in life we can't forgive ourselves when it's not enough. I'm sure you did your very best. In all probability another animal lover just like you was able to stop and be with the kitty, in your place. You've already given the kitty tender loving care in spirit and the kitty will bless you for your caring heart forever.
