Hi, I am new here :) I just adopted my first cat as an adult. I grew up with many different cats in the family as a child. We moved a lot and many of "my" favorite cats were given away when we moved. My husband was never one to want a cat or animal in the house. But he caved the other day and said I could go get the kitty I had fallen in love with at the shelter.  My new kitty (still haven't decided fully on a name) is 4 years old and came from the shelter.  He'd been there a little over a month. I saw his surrender form in his packet on his cage (they didnt' give it to me when I adopted him but I read it before ;) A lady had him as a house cat and she surrendered him because of breathing problems she had because of him. He is all 4 footed declawed and spayed (came that way from former owners) and is a complete sweetheart! He isn't shy or demanding. he loves pet and purrs a ton. When he gets tired of my almost 4 year old, he just gets up and walks away (although he did hiss at her once and bit her once because she was trying to pull him out from under his hiding spot when I wasn't looking!) He seems really well behaved. But I fell in LOVE with him when I got him out of the cage at the shelter.

The first time I saw him at the shelter (over a week ago) he looked sad and pouty and ignored me. He acted like he was trying to sleep, (curled in a ball) but still staring at me with his green eyes. I talked to him and he didn't want to talk or have anything to do with me so I moved on to visit with the other cats. The next time I went to the shelter, I opened his cage and pet him and he responded positively and so I got him out of the cage and he completely brightened up. His big green eyes light up (honestly they did) and he had this LOOK of " Somebody is paying attention to ME !!!!!" I picked him up and he was a complete teddy bear, so soft and he didnt' try to get down or anything. I knew he was the cat for me!

I went home and talked it over with my husband. He was NOT happy about the idea and we actually had a good argument. But the next day he came home from and we talked a little more (calmer) and he said I could go get him the next day. YIPPEEEEEEEE

We've been married 10 years and so I've been without a cat for that long. I LOVE cats, and I know when a cat is the "ONE" . This little (big) guy was the ONE. I hoped he'd still be there but kind of knew he would. They had loads of kittens at the shelter and everyone gravitates towards them.

I was there at the shelter 10 minutes before they opened. I had gotten up early, so excited and went shopping for all the things we needed and had time to spare and had to waste time before the shelter even opened!

He's home now and he seems really happy and relaxed. I have him in just one room right now so he can settle in. Our house is pretty big , so I didn't want him to get overwhelmed. I'll let him out soon though. Maybe a few days?

The shelter will pay for a free exam at a vet, so I am taking him in next Thursday for his exam. Same shelter he's been to in the past, and the same one we take our guinea pigs too! (there are tons of vets here too so it's a nice co-incidence).

Here's my kitty !

Aww how precious!! Congratulations on your new family member.

We have a 2.5 year old and a kitten... I understand him hiding from her! Our kitten is always hiding from our Holy terror! [emoji]128515[/emoji]
