THere isn't really a need for cat baths, unless of course it is a sphynx cat.

I wouldn't think temperature is a factor in bathing either - just provide cool places and water and your cat will be able to not get overheated.  If you are thinking that heat makes them sweat and smell (as is it does  for a human), and therefore they need bathing, this is not so for a cat (they don't sweat).

Having said that, I do bath (shower actually) my two Korat cats.  This is a human decision rather than a cat essential need, and I do it because they are super super curious, and have been known to get toxic stuff on them when we go for a walk outside despite my eagle eyes (I also walk them daily) - like car oil, or cement dust in one case.  They also sometimes have poo accidents in times of illness.  So I decided to get them used to bathing from kittenhood, and generally bathe once a month, sometimes every two months.  This also helps to remove the spot on flea meds from their fur, once they have had enough time to enter the blood stream (and I don't want them to lick it off each other - they try! - or roll around all over our bedding because it is not good in eyes).  SOme people also decide to bathe their cats to reduce the allergen load, if they are allergic to cats but live with them anyway.

Bear in mind that washing cats needs to be done with a safe CAT SPECIFIC shampoo.  NOT a human one, NOT a dog one, and not one that has essential oils - all of these can be/are toxic to cats.  Make sure you rinse really well, and help them to get dry and not cold.  Also, bathing will take away the oils in their coat, so you don't want to do it too often.  The oils are healthy for skin and hair, and too frequent washing can lead to skin and hair problems.

Frequent licking YES open mouth sometimes but mostly laying down on its back and sleeping then when it sees me it gets up and stretches and walks over to the garden door so i can open it but after i open it it still does the same thing outside i tried putting a couple of water bowls and put some ice cubes in one but he doesn't seem to drink a lot i give sometimes watermelon and fresh homemade watermelon juice and he seems to like it ( is it bad for him or does it make him sick??

Open mouth breathing is not a good sign and not healthy for a cat and indicates that he is overly hot.  What is the temperature of his environment?  I assume there is no air conditioning but do you have a fan?  Also, you can put some ice in a zip lock bag and lay that next to him.

Nice idea! the Zip lock bag my work but do you have any ideas on making him drink more water because with his dry food diet i don't think it is healthy for him

Wet food is one of the best ways to get water into a cat.  Also you can buy cat drinking fountains, or see if he likes drinking from the tap.

Thanks but my cat is afraid of running water for some reason i will look for other ways to get him to drink water but if i can't or it doesn't work out then i might try the wet food diet because it will be a lot more $ $ than the dry food diet

As far as bathing a cat b/c he's hot... No the other suggestions here are much better. The only cats who need to be bathed on a regular basis are certain purebred cats. I have had to bathe a couple of my cats over the years, but it was only for something very necessary: Fleas, poop in fur, etc, etc...

As far as water, I find that a wet food diet is the best way if your kitty doesn't like drinking. I used to feed wet but due to other issues mine are back on a grain free dry diet. It is also worth mentioning that both my girls are good drinkers.

As far as encouraging water drinking the things suggested here are fine. However if you must use a bowl, experiment with different bowls, and also make sure you don't overfill the bowl. I found that when I use a ceramic bowl vs a plastic bowl, my cats drink more. I don't know why, but their sensitive noses are most likely the culprit. Also if I filled the water too high, I saw a lot of water spilled out of the bowl. I couldn't figure out why until I saw my girl Oksana splashing water out of the bowl "to get the proper level for drinking.

Since I did this it's PEE CLUMPS GALORE in my litterbox... and yes I did just reference "pee clumps"... that just happened

At places like Costco or wallmart you can probably find cans for under 50 cents or cheaper if you get the 13oz cans, so even for a 5.5oz can that could come out to 25 cents a day to help your cat.

I'm happy to say that i got the canned food for my cats and they really like it so i don't have to worry about them drinking water or no

@FurryFavor you still need to keep plenty of fresh water available for your kitty. Yes, she will most likely drink much less if eating canned but she still needs fresh water.

I'd refill and rinse it out 2 or 3 times a day. I'd also wash the bowl every 2-3 days. Cats sensitive noses are hard to please. Doing what I suggested really increased my girls water intake.

My girls like ceramic bowls, more than plastic for some reason. Probably b/c the plastic smells funny to them.

To answer your question, no it's not as much of a concern if they are eating canned but I'd still change the water regularly.
