My cat has developed a 2"x4" hotspot on her neck and chest that she is persistently scratching/licking.  It's raw, wet, and occasionally slightly bloody. (seasonal allergies, this time gone haywire, worse than it's ever been)  She is diabetic, with BG being diet controlled.

Vet suggested treatment with daily Atopica dosage and a 10-day 2x / day regimen of Clavamox.  Has anybody had experience giving a cat these two medications?  I'm worried about risk of infections, potential side effects for Atopica.  It's seasonal allergies, they DO go away, but Atopica seems to be a lifetime med.  I wonder if there's anything with less side effects we can give her to stop her itching...

I would say the first thing to do is try what your vet said and see if it works.  Atopica can be tapered over time to find the lowest effective dose.  here are 2 linds on Atopica.  I'm generally an advocate for solving the problem that is immediately in front of you, and not trying to solve a hypothetical problem that is not currently an issue.  If you do Atopica and it doesn't help, or there are side effects, then deal with those as they come up, but if they don't come up and your cat gets relief then its a "win".
