hello everyone I need help as you know we went through hell last year and I was hesitant to take Princess in as she is always so traumatised

so last Thursday PM we took her in she hissed and growled and fought but got her 2 shots and off course the inevitable blood test ( she screamed when they took it and she had to be held down with a towel)  so that is not good

Any way she ate well thursday nite, all of Friday and saturday. I believe her last eating was after midnight saturday as there was some food left and it was gone Sunday AM

Yesterday she just refused food. I tried 6 different times during the day and six different flavours all she did was take a few licks .She was really off

This am she drank her water and she did drink at 2.00am and at 6.30 am I gave her 1/2 can of a 85G and she had 1/2 so I thought that she is coming around

5 minutes later she puked a lot of water with some food

She is purring etc when we pet her and she is stretching for us and drinking water, The vet said she may be sore a bit and still traumautised

Do you think it is a delayed reaction to the shots?? I mean she reacted on the 3rd day after them

Any advise will be helpful

It could be a delayed reaction to the vaccinations. I'd give it another day to see if Princess will eat; if she doesn't eat anything, I would definitely call the vet again. If she eats less than normal, I think that's okay.
In Ritz' case, her FHS seems to get a lot worse about a week after being vaccinated. But she eats/pees/poops normally throughout the duration.
Out of curosity, what/why was blood testing done?

There have been a few kitties here lately with delayed reactions to vaccines.  It used to be unusual but I don't think it's that unusual anymore, I am wondering if something has changed with the formulations of the vaccines.  I know the active part would be the same but the other ingredients could have changed.

My cat had a delayed reaction to her booster vaccine, on the 3rd day! She was fine the 2 days afterwards, but then barely ate, didn't drink, and slept all day on the 3rd day! I called the vet and I brought her in the same day (4th day, as she still hadn't eaten anything). Her vet said it was a delayed reaction, so she received 2 other injections: anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine, and injected fluids because she was a little dehydrated and lost a bit of weight.

Overall, the vet said it wasn't entirely uncommon, but not common either. After the second visit, she perked up within 2-3 full days!

Looks like your kitty went through the same thing. Poor guy, it's never fun for them or us!

Thanks for the response. I got some anti nausea oral tablet cerenia and gave her 1/4 tab as well as an appetite stimulant and it seems to have worked a bit. She ate some more and has not puked

Strange though it is the first time this happened but i am glad that she  you shared with me as i went out of my mind

We are looking at how she is overnight. Hopefully she will be better. The one thing though is that she drank lots of water yesterday and today so she was not dehydrated

Keeping my fingers crossed, I also will not take her back for the urine sample and kidney ultra sound to traumatise her more

she is 14 and the vet said physically she was like a 7 yr old very firm etc, teeth good , Just teh slight increase in kidney and calcium

I spoke to some one else and they said when it is such a small increase then sometimes the body balances it self

in order to do any ultrasound she has to be put to sleep because she is feral with them. She went through hell last year  for 4  months  for no real reason as it turned out so we are really not happy with the vet right now

That's good to hear that she ate something without throwing it up! Give it a few days and I'm sure she'll turn around just like my cat did.

If you're unhappy with your vet, you may want to go "vet shopping" and find a new vet (if it's possible in your area). You're leaving your cat's life in their hands so why not feel comfortable doing it!

Best of luck :)

We have thought about this also . She ate really well and stayed with us on the bed last evening  thsi am she had a littke and is under the front corner of teh bed which seems to be her favourite spot lately. we can see her and she can see us but she is ''safe''

No vomiting yet and she did a nice long Poo yesterday. She is hydrated too so fingers crosssed

Thanks a lot for your help

hello All

We are happy to say that princess seems to be fine. She is on her food and doing all that is good pooh, drinking, running, purring , sleeping with us

We have decided that we will not be taking her to the vet to check <<the possible kidney problem<< as she always is so traumatised after a visit

she is 14 yrs old and we really want her to be a happy cat as she is now. The Vet did say that the levels could even themselves out

Off course if we see something untoward we will take her in.It is not the $$$$ but she really suffers each time worse and worse

Thanks for all the advice and support
