We recently got a kitten, female. However, one of our other females has begun acting very oddly. All females are not spayed.
To begin, we brought the kitten (Skadi) home and intended to give her some confinement to one room, but she is not used to being alone and started wailing for hours on end until we let her out (neighbor complained).
One of our females (Freya) allows the kitten to eat with her, or roll around near her with minor hissing, they even touch noses and smell each other curiously now and then.
The other female (Erza) has started hissing at Freya (They are best friends?), and even us. Often making a deep grumbling growl sound if we touch her. She started hissing at us as well. We try our best to separate the kitten and Erza, but they will walk by each other and the cycle begins anew. It's been two days so far, and last night Erza vomited followed by accidentally pooping on our bed (Middening?), it seemed non intentional since it was a liquid. I worry for Erza, since she will not allow us near her but we cannot give this kitten away.
After I bathed her from her incident, I held her close and she slept there without moving for a few hours. Whenever I shuffled a little bit to re-situate she started growling. I don't know how to approach this issue, it seems like she's threatened and also jealous. Even with the kitten in another room with the door closed, Erza continues to hide and growl, only now and then to accept pats and purr (very short lived).
Freya and Erza just hit one year of age, the kitten is 4 months old and only wants to play.
This is a very serious issue to me, as we are often told and notice the bond between Erza and Freya is amazing - I don't want them to lose that love they had for one another before. I've introduced around 7-8 cats to a new kitten time and time again in my parents place before having cats of my own. This is a first I've ever seen this reaction!
