I have tried to do some research and have ideas of what it might be from overgrooming from itching or allergies to ringworm although neither seems to hit the nail on the head as to how it appears at the moment.

We noticed what seemed to be a redness or swollen look to his left eyelid/brow area a few days ago.  Closer examination didn't seem to show any open wound.  Based on his not-so-agile moves he makes sometimes, we figured he had scratched it or bumped it. The next day it seemed like maybe there was hair loss on that area (talking smaller than a dime size spot at most) which may or may not have been started the day before but clearly was more noticeable.

We opted to monitor it (even as I did research).  We also noted that it didn't appear to 'bother' him in that he didn't react adversely when we touched the area either.  Yesterday and today it is more just an area of skin without his black fur and there isn't any sign of redness, irritation, or anything really.  We debated if it seems swollen or not since the lack of fur gives that impression.

Nothing else seems untoward with him.  We have tried to dissuade him from paw-licking-grooming it in case it is just a result from that, but no way to keep him from doing that full time anyway IF that is the cause.

Our plan for the moment is to monitor it a bit longer to try and get a feel for a few things:

continued lack of any type of redness/irritation etc.

if the area increases or decreases in size noticeably

if we observe any other changes physically or in behavior (although there doesn't appear to be anything behavior related to this at all at this point).

Outside of the expected take him to the vet to be sure, does anyone have any urgent concern on getting him there sooner than later based on what limited information I can provide?  His annual vet appointment will be within a month to six weeks anyway, I just do not want to put it off that long if there are any major concerns if it just stays as it is and does not get any worse or different at least.

I tried to take some pictures on my phone but it just really didn't result in anything too useful I'm afraid.

Hard to say really.   My cat formed a baldspot on the front of her nose.   It cleared up when we changed her diet.

Sorry for the huge delay in updating.  Honestly I just forgot to and I want to let those that take their time to comment and make suggestions know results etc and "an end to the story/chapter" :)

Ended up being... nothing that we know of LOL.  It cleared up on its own slowly over a week or two.  By the time we took him in for his check up, it was all grown in and back to normal.  The vet THOUGHT I was talking about how his fur is slightly less full from the brows up towards the ears and that apparently is just a trait some cats have.  Once I clarified, they had no suggestions really other than it couldn't have been anything serious as it resolved itself without any changes to environment or diet.

My wife and I stick with our original hypothesis that he bumped or hurt himself there and in the ensuing licking and grooming over and over just rubbed the hair away for that short time.

As always, thanks everyone for your input.

Our next plan is to consider a new vet.  We did not feel we are getting the attention we want for Pan, or even that which they say they will provide, in particular regarding his reaction to the rabies shot this year which was milder than last years for sure but still makes for a very stressful day with him half frothing/half salivating all over the place AND the vet said they would call and follow up in case he had a reaction and they didn't even do that later that day.  Of course for me, the final straw was that they decided Pan is overweight by 3 or 4 pounds without really looking at him (at least how I felt about it) and simply based on his weight (18.something lbs).  He is a big cat yes, but his waistline is evident, ribs easily felt through his fur/skin etc, and if anything I feel he is underfed and was expecting them to have a suggestion on how much MORE to feed him than the food bags chart that stops giving portion size at 15 lbs heh :)
