In your opinion, which of the following cat foods (dry) cause the least stinky poops?

As some of you may know, my 6 month old tuxedo cat, Squiggy, has been using Blue Wilderness Kitten, but it doesn't seem to be agreeing with his tummy. (He's been checked for worms and internal parasites and is in the clear! Hooray!) His diarrhea seems to be getting better, but he's just so gassy and his poop smells so bad (think an aroma like very rotten eggs!). He prefers dry kibble to canned/raw. I would like to change his food to something that will make his poops less stinky, but after much research am torn between the following:

- Wellness Complete Kitten Health
- Wellness Core Grain-Free Kitten Formula
- Royal Canin Kitten Spayed/Neutered
- Nutro Natural Choice Wholesome Essentials Kitten

Thanks in advance!

In my opinion, I would say Blue Buffalo odor control.

Out of those options, I would choos the Wellness CORE.

However, have you done anything to rule out a protein intolerance or an intolerance to another ingredient in the Wilderness?

Hi MeowFrau,

I'm sorry, but to be honest yet respectful of your opinion, I'd say, "none of the above".
The reason? If your kitten has been having loose stools for a while (and it seems like it has), then dry kibble is the last thing you'd want for a growing, dehydrated, and ill kitten. Cats in general all have low thirst drive, and with kibble only 10% moisture maximum, I fear it will exacerbate his problem. I'd say feeding him grain-free wet food with about a tablespoonful of warm water, and probiotics to see if it helps. Probiotics will take time to work, though, but you can buy it from health food stores made for humans and dump the contents from the capsules into his food and mix. You can also add some fiber like Metamucil or canned teaspoon of pumpkin (plain, unspiced, not pie filler) also mixed into his wet food. Be careful you add a little bit each at meal and only metamucil or pumpkin, not both at the same time.

You'll need to find the root cause of his diarrhea, unfortunately, to stop side effect of bad odors. I'm wondering if the vet has perfomed a diarrhea PCR panel on your kitty if they've already checked his stool samples and it came out clean? Sometimes a more in-depth diagnostic test is required by the vet to find the causing organism(s) for his loose stools. I don't think any diet at this point will help with odor, unfortunately, but getting the stools more solid should definitely help!

I apologize again, I don't mean to offend you, honestly, but I was looking in the best interest of your kitty. At this point, his health could be on the line or at least going into decline if you neglect to keep him hydrated as he needs.

I hope you and your vet detects the causing factor in all this and hopefully everything will start to be much better for all. Healing wishes sent to your kitty, and all positive vibes to you, too!
Fingers crossed that your vet's skill is tops in investigating the real issue here!
