All my unfiled paperwork scattered over the office floor may end up sitting comfortably in a shoebox.
doubtful anyone would mind

first thing, you have to stop hanging around here
- shut the computer down - have coffee, flavored if that helps, then, just do the big noticeable things first for major effect
. Might be enough?

I'm still not motivated, folks. And I have friends coming over Friday night.
All my unfiled paperwork scattered over the office floor may end up sitting comfortably in a shoebox.
That is what happens here...

An audiobook is a good idea!  My MIL loaned me one years ago.  I don't normally read suspenseful books; they get me too worked up!  But as an audiobook it was great!!

I'm actually at work! I work full-time (popping in and out of TCS throughout the day since my job duties are computer heavy), and I spend the rest of my evenings tending to three special needs cats (literally HOURS). The only time I can really catch up on housework is on the weekends, but I oftentimes opt to take a nap and catch up on my sleep instead.
It's a vicious cycle.

I've been trying to pick up things here and there, putting everything in it's place. Ah, heck, I may end up throwing everything in the office and shutting the door.

Oh - this is a hilarious thread because I need motivation lately to clean. Big time. :slant: IF I see dust anywhere, which has been often , then that motivates me to at least get out the Swiffer duster. In fact, I wish I could afford a cleaning lady every two weeks because that is how bad I have been about cleaning. I am hoping that tomorrow I can get the vacuuming and dusting done. :cross: Now I have some motivation and wouldn't want to let you all down by not doing it. :lol3:

I love cleaning and I love my house clean but I do go through patches of being a bit slack. The best motivation is to invite guests for dinner. I've got people coming tomorrow night so whatever is not clean will be before they arrive. I would be mortified if people saw cat fur gathering on my floors!!!!

Usually just thinking of the dirty and/or messy houses I've been in is enough motivation. If that doesn't work, I think of a reward for myself in the form of a book I want to read or a film I want to watch. Getting the house cleaned now means no guilt later about giving myself time to enjoy it.

I need all of the motivation I can get.
I have allergies and asthma so at times I have a tough time cleaning. I always wear a mask. We are haivng some people over on Saturday, so I am going to have to break down and clean a bit.
Ugh...I feel you there!  And @Winchester my mom was similar, so I have a deep-rooted hatred of cleaning.  But, I can't stand a dirty house either.  Until nursing school, my house was always clean.  Since nursing school, not so much.  Now that I'm finally finished with everything and have time until my job begins...oh yeah, I'll be working on motivation  to clean this house from top to bottom.  I've already been GLADLY trashing some of the clutter (nursing school stuff) but have more to go.  This thread is very timely!

I think it was the way my mom was raised. I know that she wouldn't even have a mug or a bowl in the sink overnight. She would run a sink of dishwater to clean a mug before she went to bed. It's the way it was.

I was thinking about this thread last night while doing some housework. Rick vacuumed last night while I was dusting a bit and cleaning the kitchen. I still have to wipe down the bathroom when I get home from work today.

When I was in college, my car always looked like a hurricane hit it. Papers, books, folders all over the place. And since I did most of my reading and writing in bed at home, the floor by my side of the bed was like that, too. Along with an ash tray always filled to the rim with butts because I smoked like a chimney back then, too. Rick came back to bed one night and I had fallen asleep with the textbook on my face. Between working full time and going to classes part time, I had no time for anything.

Whew...here comes the sneezing!  I wet-dusted but still, it was THAT bad.  Got 50/50 water vinegar on my shower now to bust up the soap scum.  I'm breaking this down into segments so my allergies can handle it better.

My mom is the same way! She vacuums EVERY DAY. She only has one cat, but she is majorly OCD about cat hair and litter tracking.

Got me a cleaner. Once a week the same woman has come to me for 27 years.
Shes like my sister and I'm like her mum. How's that for a relationship.

Pam, this is exactly the way I am. I don't think I have ever left any dishes or dish in the sink over night. I just can't go to sleep otherwise. The sink has to be sparkling clean, then I am ready for bed. :lol3: In fact, when we have company over people are always coming into the kitchen asking where their glass or dish went. I had already cleaned it. Drives people nuts.

Funny - today Larry (what a guy :heart3:) is going to vacuum, and I am going to dust and wipe down the bathrooms and clean the kitchen.

I got me lodgers!

They are less tolerant of dirty dishes than me (and I have to admit they cook and use the kitchen more than me too though I eat more)  so my lodgers pay me rent to wash up my dishes.  Excellent result.
(I do clean the bathroom though so our chores are not completely unfairly balanced).

I do feel obliged to wash up occasionally.  They are a lovely couple and I'd like them to stay as long as possible.

Tomorrow I have a desperate need to tackle the mountain of clothes I emptied out of my wardrobe last week and which has since layed in a pile on the chest of drawers in my bedroom.  That plus the winter duvet I took off my bed the same day, and all the clean washing I haven't put away because I can't get past the first two obstacles....  I need to find some other pay-off than being able to do more putting away /  tidying up though or the piles are likely to keep growing.

ha! today, we did (the Rogue and Grisou helpfully insisting on being in my way, Oberon watching from a safe distance):
  • clean the fridge
  • do laundry (that I still have to put away), and everyone loves it when I pull sheets from a bed. More so when I hang a washed one up to dry. They even managed to pull a rug off where I hung it to dry and sat on it
  • clean the kitchen countertops
  • vaccuum (Oberon had to flee into the garage here)
now we still have to wipe the kitchen floors, which is difficult because the Rogue thinks my mop is a funny thing to pounce on

yes, my parents are coming tomorrow, the ultimate motivation

I have cleaning helpers too!! I find it hard to change the sheets or make the bed. When I do manage to make it look perfect then they jump on top and ruin it!!

Hee hee, so this might be a common sight in life with cats then.....?   It takes me about 15 minutes to make my bed, and that's on a quick day where we don't get to the stage of  'time out' sessions.

OMG...too funny! I had to change my sheets last night and Sebastian loves to play under the sheets as I'm making the bed. No other time will he do this. Just when I'm making the bed. I'll have to get a video of him. It's the funniest thing.
