hi all,

I have just joined the forum, have just got my own appartment and have also adopted my very first cat. his name is Pasha. he is turkish with white hair and amazing blue eyes. Pasha was born deaf and is now 2 years old. he's is one fat bum cat and weights 7.7 kg. he was 8 when i got him 4 weeks ago so we are doing well. the vet says his idea weight is 5.5 so he is currently on a diet with special food.

Pasha has a rough day yesterday. I had walked in home this weekend to find lilly pollen stain on his hair. I didn't think it was a big deal although did bother me. next day it was all over his face and close to his eye and my gut feeling called for the vet who tells me lilli pollen is poisous for cats and he had to be shaved off and vaccinated. Pasha had to also be microchiped so they left in for the night to sedate him and get the grooming done :(

what's bothering me is one of his eyes still stained with yellow which is such a shame.

he's very quiet today, had not even made a step on his tree but i've read on the forum and it seems to be a normal reaction.

I know cats in general better stay indoor and espcially deaf cats but I would like him to get some workout so concedering taking him out after leash and harness training. has anyone tried so with deaf cat?

Welcome to TCS.  I'm so glad you got Pasha to the vet and got the lily pollen off him.  You should not have lilies in your home or in any part of the yard he walks in.  They are extremely poisonous.

See  http://www.cats.org.uk/wolverhampton/news/lethal-lilies

While a deaf cat would be extremely handicapped in the outdoors, since he could not hear anything coming at him, he would be safe if you taught him to walk on a harness.  Several of my friends have trained their cats to walk on harnesses.  Here is one article on how to train them.  I had one who walked on a harness years ago when she was my only cat.  (She was born in 1968 and died in 1987.)

Hi @Shatha   and welcome to the site.

l hope Pasha is doing well after the lily poison scare.

Harness training outside sounds wonderful for him, if he enjoys it of course. Have you also considered making him a small outdoor enclosure so he could enjoy the outdoors and still be safe?

hi @Andrya  He's much better thanks for asking. he was constipated for a day but now all well and back to being himself. Training is going well, he now knows No gesture and sometimes truns his head away as if he doesn't want to see and know that this is a No :p

I am very keen on training him for outdoor walks although have gone for a run around the neighbourhood, a lot of people tend ot walk their dogs so not sure how it would go down. I have not seen him yet interact with any other animal. I have only seen him interact with friends visiting my house and he is normally ok, sniffing them and walking around the living room. the only I have seem him hiss was at the Vet and the drs note said "aggresstive cat"

he keeps looking through the balcony window outside and it breaks my heart but i am worried letting him out on the balcony.

Pasha is adorable! And so lucky to have a caring momma.

I do not let my cats outside without supervision. Harness training is great, or you can sit outside with him on the balcony. We have "outside adventure time" on nice days, when I close the gate to the yard and sit outside and watch my kitties explore.

For exercise, have you tried toys like a laser pointer or battery toy for him to chase?

Hi

No I haven't tried the light but have actually had the idea suggested by my feline friend so might try this. He also has a 2 m high cat adventure tree to play and jump around but these days poor thing has a cone around his neck so he's not in a playful mood. Once I take the cone off and his rash is better next weekend I will start taking him outside into the balcony but not without harness and leash although now we have actually bonded and he does listen to what I ask of him with my hand.. 'Well most of the time... He is as stubborn as I am :p and when he doesn't wanna do it he just looks the other way or sequent his eyes so he can say I didn't see that :p

The rash is really bothering me... It's under his arm but the vet couldn't examine him becoz my lovely cat starts hissing at drs. So he only looked at it through the cage but said if doesn't get any better in 3 days after using the cream then I need to take him back and the only way he can be examined is if he's sedated. Poor thing it would be second time in less than a month. It breaks my heart seeing him in the cone for the next 6 days
