Morning!

In spirit if the site's theme for the month.. Cats and other Animals.. my question is:

Aside from cats, what animal would you like to own, that you currently do not have?

I would like to own another dog, we haven't had one now for 15 years! I would like to get a German Shepard. He'd be fine around the cats because I remember how my cat 'trained' the neighbors doberman puppy that came into our yard every day. You should have seen the look on my neighbors face a year later when my 6lb. cat was chasing his 120lb dog out of the yard, it was hilarious!

It's non-negotiable - at some point in my life, I WILL have at least one dog. Ideally two. :)

Other than that, I would be very happy to open my home to ferrets and/or chinchillas, and a fish tank or two.

A smaller dog. Which is what I wanted when we got Louie. I told the lady I wanted a toy size dog or smaller. One I could hold. One that doesn't feel like a small horse. A really tiny one. Kitten size is what I wish we had.
When we got Louie... I felt so bad. I couldn't leave him. My heart hurt for him. I wish at times I had. *cringe* I will keep working on him. If I don't get through... the cats will lol.

It would be a dog.  I have actually had a dog a good part of my life.  I am back in an apartment now so I don't have a dog.  I know a lot of people in apartments have dogs but I chose not to.  That's partly because I like the larger higher energy dogs and they just don't do well in an apartment.

a horse and / or a siberian husky

But those are pipe dreams since I can barely keep up with the work for my family and 3 cats!

Also I could never buy such a beautiful dog that everyone loves, my heart will always go to the sweet mixed-breed with the crumpled ear who has had a rough time, waiting for a better life at the SPCA.

I've wanted a Maine Coon cat now for years. I wouldn't get one while Banshee was alive because I felt it wasn't fair to her. And then after she passed away, we talked about getting a MC kitten. But then Mollipop came into my life and now I won't get one because of her.

We wouldn't mind having a dog, but not until after we retire. Maybe a Great Pyrenees puppy. We used to have an Alaskan Malemute, who was the absolute canine love of my life. I dearly loved that boy. We lost him to cancer when he was 8 years old. We thought about getting another Malemute, but we were both working and figured it wasn't fair to a dog to be alone all day. A friend wanted to give us a small dog, but honestly? Most small dogs I know are yappers.....they bark over anything and everything. And I simply could not handle a yapper. (It's bad enough dealing with six meowers!

I have always wanted a tortoise. I love turtles and tortoises but worry if they can be truly happy as pets. My boyfriend in college had lizards, and even though we built them huge, customized terrariums with natural materials (and water features for the Nile Monitor, the terrariums were quite impressive), I still felt like it just wasn't right for them to be confined. When we finally buy a house and have a permanent yard of our own, I may consider getting a tortoise. I would build a gigantic indoor/outdoor enclosure and allow him free access to the yard when the weather is right.

A dog for us too.  DH really doesn't want one right now and while I've got the itch for one; I've got no desire to have "yard duties."  So I always say not before our kids are all potty trained and big enough to clean the yard!  Puppies can be too much like babies; so maybe we'll go for an adult when the time does come.

I have loved dogs all my life and would love to have one.  Since I rent, I am not allowed to have a dog and I probably wouldn't adopt one because of Autumn.

Mostly I'd like more than one cat, then to have a nice fish tank again but it takes quite a bit of work, money, and space I don't have these days so not about to happen.  I go through phases where I think if I was a 'lady of leisure' living in a big house and didn't need to go out to work regularly I'd like to have a dog: a smallish mongrel would be fine.  I've always loved black lab's and dalmations but too many health issue for me.

Paul absolutely loves Pugs and would love to have one. I would love a dog (any kind) but at this point in our lives cats are so much easier to take care of. And I don't think our 3 would appreciatea dog.

Ha! seems like the majority wants a dog!

Me, I'd want a larger reef tank. No dogs, thank you :)

Chickens.  I'm telling you, they're funny.  I could watch chickens for hours.  Mine were pets so when they saw humans, they'd run at them.  It scared some neighbors of mine at first until I explained that the chickens thought they had treats for them.  Once they understood that, they brought every grandchild over with treats to hold and pet the chickens.

I'd also love a saltwater tank.

That's adorable! If I wasn't renting in a high rise, I would totally love to get a few silkies.

They're used to living in close quarters due to not being able to survive "outdoors" due to rain.  Seriously.  Some keep bantams like large parrots.

Oh, that is all too tempting. Maybe our next place will have to have a third bedroom for some chickens. ;)

I grew up on a farm and the family down the road had some goats.  They are funny, I could sit and watch them for hours.
