The technician at the vet told me that if I'm going to continue to feed my cat friskies wet food, I should switch to the salmon because the other kinds have by products in them. I am pretty sure I read to not feed the seafood as much. So is meat by products still better then the salmon with no by products or not?

A lot of fish is not good for cats. Fish can be allergenic not to mention that the big fish can have high levels of toxins like mercury. So yes, while a food made of just meat by-products (no named meats) is not ideal, I think it's preferable than an all fish diet. If you rotate between the various Friskies pates with the salmon only once or twice a week, they would get a wider variety of nutritional profiles. The Poultry Platter is the only one with a named meat as the first ingredient. Mixed Grill and one other I can remember right now have no fish at all.
