My kitty is going through this now and I'm having an anxious morning. He just came yesterday afternoon and he is definitely peeing, but it's frequent and in small amounts. (The pee looks okay, it's not bloody or anything.) I'm such a wreck.

Hi, MorgnsGrl

I posted on here a little while ago, my post was moved to a separate thread. However I felt the same and basically had the same worries as you. However after 2 weeks he has finally seemed to settle down. He is peeing less often, and larger amounts each time.

He is only on wet food, a mix of the urinary food and normal wet. No dry and I have taken to syringing small amounts of water...prob only 1 or 2 teaspoons a day..if that!. The water fountain I bought didn't encourage him to drink. I also got a feliway diffuser and although I don't know if this has helped, he seemed to show the most signs of improvement within a day of plugging this in.

It has been very stressful couple of weeks so I do sympathise. I took him in a few days ago as that morning he seemed to be going more again (and doing not much at all), but the vet sent me home, after giving him an injection plus the feliway. She said he would be less stressed at home and definitely wasn't in any immediate danger (his bladder wasn't full). And since then he has been much better (touch wood!). But as I said it took nearly 2 weeks for him to be peeing more normally. I did ring the vets a few times when I was worried, but they were not too concerned as long as he was passing something. Also keep feeling him for any sign of a full bladder.

Hope all works out ok.

Thank you, Melanie!

I've tried feeling for his bladder but he's not thrilled about it and I can't feel anything I can identify. (The night we took him in to the vet hospital, he cried pitifully when I touched his belly; when I do it now he's resigned but he doesn't seem uncomfortable, just annoyed.) After I pressed around on him for a minute he did go into the litter box and peed what I'd consider a more reasonable amount so there's that. His pee looks normal (no blood or anything.)

We bought a water fountain yesterday but he looks at it like it's an alien. I'm mixing some water into the canned food the vet gave us (it's Hills C/D) and he's eating. I haven't seen him drink water today but he's in a room where he can relax away from our other cats so I assume he *is* drinking. We did see him drink yesterday, and they'd given him sub-q fluids before he came home so I think he's reasonably hydrated. He's on an antibiotic, a med to keep his bladder small/contracted, and another med to keep his urethra relaxed, so I'm trying to tell myself that it's probably not unusual for him to pee in a sort of atypical pattern. Plus he had a catheter in for at least 48 hours -- he must be sore and irritated.

I really appreciate your reply. This is scary!

Our cat who just came home yesterday after being unblocked is blocked again. The emergency vet is recommending a Perineal Urethostomy and we are tempted to go for it. Any thoughts?

I, personally, have never had a cat that blocked, but I did manage to find this thread that you  may find helpful:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/264960/my-experience-with-blockages-and-pu-surgery.

In the meantime, I have asked that your posts to broken into a separate thread so others may more easily see it and response, since this is an old thread having nothing to do with P/U surgery.
