The day after I retire, I am moving to Belize. I swear. And I am never coming back. Never. Ever. EVER

I will take my chances with the hurricanes. At least there is no snow.

(And yes, I'm taking the cats with me.

Winchester Winchester come on down here and be my neighbor. We usually don't have much snow, just this winter. :lol3: We do get hurricanes, so I will have to check out your property before you buy it to see what the flood history is.

You're in North Carolina. Our kids have been thinking of moving to NC for years now. They came "this" close a couple years ago, but it didn't work out job-wise for our son. We've often said that, if they move to NC, we'll probably follow them down there when we retire.

Maybe we'd be neighbors! We could bake together!

I enjoyed my time in Ambergris Caye in Belize, but I don't know if I'd live there.  I've been pretty babied by the low crime where I live here on the GA coast (despite being a tourist area).  But I know what you mean, I'm not looking forward to my run this morning.  It's 8 am and 39 degrees,  Yesterday the high was in the high 70's, the low was 60 I think.

Somebody else mentioned the crime rate, I think, in Belize City. It's pretty high. I'm just tired of the snow and the bitterly cold. It was 22 when I left for work this morning. And the wind is gusting about. Evidently, nobody told Mother Nature that spring is here. I'm tired of dealing with it....period.

I can understand that!  I'm hating this 39 degree garbage.  But, I should hush since it's very rare to see snow here.  Last time snow "stuck" was 1989 I think.

I think I'm too used to the perks of living in a country like the U.S.  I don't do well with heat and humidity so I don't know about the southeast.  I think if I were to move it would be to the southwest.  I would have to deal with heat but not the humidity.  I would stay away from the big retirement areas like Scottsdale though.

It's funny you mention that.  Like GA, it's much hotter inland than on the coast.  I'll sweat half to death in Macon and Atlanta, but the coast has a breeze that really helps out.  I went to a Mayan Ruin called Altun Ha in Belize and I thought I was going to burst into flames.  Once I got back out onto the keys I was good.

I think I just want to be a snow-bird and go where the weather is best in each season.  I'll take a cabin in the Adirondack mountains for summer, somewhere coastal for the winter (or maybe Key West), fall and/or spring in The Outer Banks....   Sounds good to me!!  I don't consider myself a typical beach person because I can't stand crowds.  I want to go when I can walk the water's edge.  I'd have to test the crowds out for Key West in the winter first I guess!  But I did like it down there in town!

I have always wanted to go to Key West but I haven't made it yet.  It sounds like a really offbeat interesting place.  Did you see the polydactyl kitties at the Hemmingway house?

We've been to Key WEst several times. Paul loves it but I just found it old and not very inviting. We did tour the Hemingway House and I loved that - took pictures of their famous cats.

Anybody who wants to come is more than welcome. I'm ready. And I'm serious. I can deal with the heat. And I can deal with the humidity. It's rare that you'll find me complaining about either one of them. But I simply cannot stand being cold any longer. I can't do it anymore.

I suppose I could just stay here.....and not go outside when winter comes. But that makes no sense at all either. I like being outside and I can't stand being cooped up in the house all the time.

Even Rick said a couple times this winter (the last time was when he slipped on the ice and fell down the outdoor basement steps) that Belize is looking better and better. He even texted me with the name of a real estate company there one day.....it was snowing like crazy and he was on his lunch break at work. He was sitting in his truck watching it snow and thinking about how much he's starting to hate the cold and snow. And before he knew it, he was looking at Belize online.

I have heard of the very occasional freak snow in Jerusalem.  It's rare though, doesn't last long and no accumulation.
