Hi, it's me, whatever.......

I was wondering.  Princess, 5 mo came to me with URI three months ago.  She was very, very sick.  I have her on L Lysine twice a day 250mg with her food.  It has been a big help, I know that however, she still does a fair amount of sneezing but looks beautiful and eyes and nose are nice and clear for the most part.

Now, my query.  She is a wild rambunctious girl kitty and the mornings for about 3 hours she hangs from walls and windows, does back flips with playful ears back, tail up and wow!  Tries to jump up walls, scares the crap out of my little dog and the other cat too.  Now she is settling down and resting her worst part of the day over.   Well just awhile ago she was on my bed, just finished a marathon with her fav toy and lay down panting, her side going up and down a million times a minute and when she sat up looked like a dog, mouth breathing, panting with tongue out just like a dog.   It only lasted a few minutes till she settled down and she is lying and resting calm and fine now.   Do I need to be concerned??   Just I've never seen a cat pant like a dog before...

Princess is going to be spayed in a few weeks at the animal rescue in my city.   I hope she will be okay.  Do kitties make out okay being spayed when they have URI histories?     Thanks for allowing me to blab on!  Oh and BTW, what is that other supplement that is like L Lysine but also works wonders with the kitties?   Should I switch from L Lysine to this other one I'm thinking of or give both indifinitely??            Whatever..........

My vet told me that cats under the age of two who get a good work out can pant/open mouth breathe and that's normal and my young cat has down that.  Discuss with your vet when she is spayed. Having a history of URI is no problem so long as she doesn't have one at the time of the operation.

Yes, I think it's perfectly normal for a cat to pant like a dog after EXTREME play , although the panting shouldn't last very long.  I've got a 5 year old who will still run around like crazy until he's pooped out, than breathe heavily for about 10 seconds, then he's ready to go again

As to the L-Lysine question, are you thinking of Lactoferrin?  Here's a thread on that.  But it is in addition to L-Lysine, no as a replacement.  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/267703/stubborn-herpes-infection-add-lactoferrin-in-addition-to-lysine

As stephenq stated, as long as she isn't presenting with a URI at the time of her scheduled spay, she should be okay.

That she comes thru with flying colors.  No reason to think she won't!
