My niece is getting married in May and I plan on giving her money. They definitely need it. I'd like to give her something small though to commemorate the event. I was looking at this ornament:

http://myheadtomytoes.blogspot.com/2011/07/wedding-invitation-ornament.html

Her invitation is very colorful, so it could look interesting.

Anyone else have ideas? :) :wed:
I like this idea. Where would one find a clear ornament like this. I am interested because we have an upcoming wedding to attend in April. We were there when this young woman was born. She has always called us "Aunt and Uncle. " We are giving them money or a gift card, but I love this idea of an ornament.

Most craft stores sell the clear ornaments. :)

I like the ornament idea, especially if their invitation is colorful.

I really like this as well, as it's such a lovely gesture and will be appreciated.

But if I have any other ideas I'll get back to you!

No other ideas, but I love the invitation ornament. My parents gave us something similar, which I've treasured all these years.

I like the ornament idea. It's really pretty and it means something.

We have a local candlecrafting shop. When my sister got married my mother took her wedding invitation to the shop and they created a candle from the invitation. All white, all flowery and really pretty. The front of the candle is the actual invitation; the candle was formed around it. My sister loves candles and she really loved this idea.

You can also give them the wedding colors and they'll work with those colors for the candle.

Thank for that, Pam! They already have s special candle that they are going to use as part of the ceremony, but I've bookmarked it for future weddings. :bigthumb:

It looks like I am going ahead with the ornament. Wish me luck! :lol3:

Help! I need opinions. I just made it and I am wondering if I should get my mother's invitation so there is more inside or if you think it is ok.....

Thank, Tricia. The more I look at it the more I agree. I think I should just glue the ribbon and be done with it.

I'm a bit late but..

I think there's plenty.  I don't think it's meant to be full, and the idea is just the one invite.

It's lovely..

Being a recently married person myself I might br able to give some insight :)

I was given lots of kitchen appliances, furniture, and anything we would need basically to help us get started on our own in our apartment. They may not be romantic gifts but very practical and I use them every day.

At my family wedding shower, one of Rick's aunts gave us a laundry basket. And in that basket, she had all kinds of neat kitchen gadgets and little utensils. I thought then and I still do that it was one of the neatest gifts I got. Wooden spoons, a vegetable peeler, a cheese slicer, corn holders, a can opener, some glass custard cups, measuring spoons, measuring cups, some spices, some paring knives, round metal cake pans, some glass pie pans, a cake tester, an oven thermometer, copies of some of her favorite recipes, just all kinds of really neat things for somebody getting started in a kitchen. That laundry basket was 3/4 full of stuff and it was all things that I would use once I started cooking. I don't know how well that would go over with some of today's new brides, but honestly, I thought it was great.

That was an ingenious gift, because it really is the little stuff that's often lacking when you set up a household.
