Aw sorry to hear Sophie has been  in the wars and wanted to reiterate what others had said about not blaming yourself.  So glad surgery went well and she is recovering.

Would you mind me asking who you used for pet insurance? I am in the UK and have two 1 year old cats but I didn't take out pet insurance last year as I couldn't find a reasonable quote. Would be interested to know your provider!

Hope the rest of the afternoon whizzes by for you til pick up time :)

Ditto! I'd like to know too please.  So many horror stories about them not paying out too and using any reason to wriggle out of it. We want insurance sorted soon too, but knowing who to chose is hard.  Cheers :-)

Fantastic news and she will now go from strength to strength! I call my cats my fur babies because that's exactly how I look at them! Keep us updated x
Thanks :) And I'll update when I get her home and cook her some yummy fish for dinner (Bland diet again :( )

I had so much trouble deciding too.. At one of the appointments with the vet for vaccinations I asked the vet for advice and he said PetPlan are usually the best for paying the claims quickly. He said with PetPlan if it's expensive treatment the vets can do a direct claim from them too instead of me having to pay it then claim it back. Sophie's surgery today I was told would be roughly £800 but on the form I was given this morning it said the estimate was between £1000 and £1200, so I'm glad I didn't have to pay it up front because I have no idea where I'd even find enough money after already paying out about £450 for the first few appointments since her accident and for the xrays.

I also picked the covered for life policy from them and it has up to £4000 per year.. I just figured the covered for life one would be best in case there's ever any problems that would need long term care.. It'd break my heart if something happened to one of them and I couldn't get them treated because of not having enough money.. The price was also fairly good I think. It's not the cheapest one there is out there, but the vet highly recommend them and so I don't mind paying a little more for peace of mind! I think I paid slightly over £100 each for a year. I paid it in full when I started the policy so might have got a discount but not sure if I did or not..

Thankyou!  £100 a year is quite reasonable. I hope they don't push it up for you next year tho..  Can I ask why you didn't claim for the £450 as well?

Oh, I did put in a claim.. It's just I had to pay it up front to the vet.. When I got told on Tuesday her surgery would be so expensive though I asked if they would do a direct claim for the surgery and they were fine with that.. And I don't think they put it up for making a claim.. I read on their website that they feel it's irresponsible to increase premiums because of a claim because it'd maybe stop people getting their pets treated (Something like that anyway).. I'll wait and see though. Both Chloe and Sophie are roughly the same age (Chloe is like 2 weeks older) so I guess I'll see if both of them have the same premium next year.. I think every year it'll go up by a bit though anyway because they're getting older..

Oops not sure how I quoted 2 posts at once there lol.. Meant to just quote the one by Fleabags Mom.

Also, I just found the quote from the FAQ on their website:

Will you increase my premium at renewal if I make a claim?

Each year, the premiums you pay are based on the cover you have chosen and the information you have provided about your pet's age, breed and address.

Please rest assured, the amount you pay is in no way connected to any claim you need to make for your pet. To put this into context, if you have two pets of the same breed and age, you will pay the same premium for both, even if one pet has claimed every year and the other has managed to avoid illness or injury.

Got my baby home now.. Breaks my heart though seeing her in her cage :( She doesn't like it in there and wont settle down.. She also hit the bar with her bad leg a couple of times...

The image quality is bad, but here's my brave little girl all back home:

Just waiting for her dinner to cook now. I bet she must be so hungry since I had to starve her from 8pm last night :( There's some cod fillets (She has to go on a bland diet because of the anesthetic) in the oven cooking for her though :)

Aw, bless her! I bet she will feel a whole lot better tomorrow and hope she enjoys her fish. Don't give her too much at once though or she will just bring it straight back up. She is gorgeous and once again, it's lovely to see how much you care x:D

Ended up having to go to the vets again tonight... She decided to play "dip the poorly leg in the water".. So she had to go get the dressing changed.. Literally like 15 minutes after getting her home.

Going to keep the water out of her cage for an hour or two until she settles down a bit..

It's really upsetting me just how unhappy Sophie is in her cage.. I wish she understood why she needs to be in there. I bet she must think I'm a horrible and evil mummy :(

I think tonight I'm going to sleep on the living room floor next to the cage so I'm at least near her and maybe it'll keep her a bit calmer

How is she this morning? Did you have a good night with her overnight?
She's doing ok, just very unhappy in her cage :( Since she woke up this morning at like 8am, she's been meowing almost constantly and wont settle down :(

Sophie seems to have calmed down a little now.. The last couple of hours she's mainly slept. She's awake again now so I opened the door to see if she wants some water (She keeps throwing her bad leg around and knocking it if i leave it in there) and to give her a snuggle.. I feel so bad because she doesn't understand why she needs to be in there :( I keep telling her I love her very much though and have to keep her in there to make sure she gets better.. She obviously doesn't understand what I'm saying but it makes me feel a little better telling her..

Decided to let Sophie have a snuggle on the sofa with me today. She'd been acting very depressed for a couple of hours.. She was sat in her cage just staring into space for hours, and wasn't even sleeping.. The vet did tell me I could bring her out as long as she stays still but I planned to keep her in the cage for the first few days anyway just to make sure I don't cause any problems with her healing.. But anyway I gave in and we had a snuggle on the sofa for about an hour and a half. I'll probably let her out for an hour or so a couple of times a day to keep her happy. When she was on the sofa with me she seemed so much happier and was even purring, and it was nice for me having a cuddle with my poorly little girl, because up to now I'd only opened the door to her cage and petted her.

Aww, poor ol' Sophie! Glad to hear you both enjoyed your cuddle. I'd say a few of those a day are in order! A happier kitty should get better quicker.

Sorry you're finding it emotionally tough being strict. Gotta do what's best tho hey? Cruel to be kind and all that. Sophie will appreciate it later when she's healed and running around normally.

Bit embarrassing admitting this, but I looked on youtube for vids especially for cats when our boy was poorly & agitated/fed up. Found some birdsong and then some music for cats and it worked! Sent him off for a nice snooze and calmly too with the laptop in front of him. Drove me around the bend, the music was terrible to my ears '-)

Good luck & good vibes!

Thanks for the music idea! Found some 2 hour cat relaxation music thing on youtube so going to put my laptop next to her cage and play it and hopefully she'll settle down to sleep soon :) I kind of want to get some sleep too, but I feel bad going to sleep while she's still wide awake..

Finally had a chance to tidy up today! The last couple of days my flat has become such a mess.. Especially the kitchen.. I've felt so bad leaving the room because Sophie would just cry and cry, so I've only been out of the room for cooking and using the bathroom! She was having a bit of a nap earlier so I finally got the kitchen spotless again and the rest of the place vacuumed.. I really hate mess :/

Also since I put a mug of water in Sophie's cage instead of a bowl there's been no more accidents with her bandage and hopefully it'll stay this way.. I even left the water in there last night but was very worried I'd wake up and her bandage would be soaking wet again, but it was fine thankfully :) The cats already try drinking my cups of tea or glasses of water, so it's probably going to make it worse, but I guess it's something I can work on with her once she's better and allowed back out.
