From what I've been reading I have approximately a month and a half to two months before it will be time to switch to adult cat food. I want something that is high end simply because I learned from you all that it will pay off in the lifespan and vet bill department. My question is for those of you who purchase high end brands what brand do you use and if you have used grocery store brands first, what difference in your cats health did you notice after you decided your new feeding routine?

Here is a thread that might help you find a good quality canned food. I understand Fancy Feast Classic is decent grocery store brand.
I fed raw (prey model raw) which can be cheaper than high quality canned food so I can only report second hand information. I tried Wellness, Soulistic, Tiki and many other brands; Ritz liked them well enough but for some reason (I spoiled her?) she became somewhat addicted to Fancy Feast Classic Seafood, that's the only food she would eat. In desparation, I switched her to raw (prey model raw). Now, she'll eat any kind of protein I put in front of her. My point (get to the point!) is: I advise you to what ever food you choose, rotate brands/flavors so she doesn't become focused on one food/style, and so if that food gets recalled/reformulated, you have an alternative.

Thank you so much for your reply. I've been doing all of this research. I've been reading reviews and asking all the critical questions and when I woke up this morning something dawned on me. None of any of this work I'm doing will make a bit if difference if she will not eat it! Lol my fickle, fickle beast. So I think that now that I have done all the leg work on brands, nutrition, raw, grain free ect. I will order one can of everything I would like to try, and by process of elimination figure out what she will and will not eat. The thing about it is that I'm a bulk shopper. I like to stock up on everything needed and just keep the supplies on hand. But this cannot be done until I know what she will eat. I think I put the wagon before the horse on this one. Oh dear me.

You can always do the transition dance: put a tablespoon of the new food with the food she does now eat, and build up to 50/50 then 100% new food.
If she likes a particular flavor in a particular brand, try the flavors in that brand.
Again, rotate rotate rotate.
I am a bulk shopper too, and that did not work when Ritz started going through her finiky/picky stage. Luckily that phase passed, either with age (she got out of the terrible twos/threes) or just really liking raw food. Ritz can't handle red meat on an empty stomach, so I fed her white meat (think chicken breast, chicken thigh, pork) in the morning and in the evening red meat (beef, venison, goat, etc). So it's also fine if you feed her the new food when she is hungriest and the old food when she isn't quite so hungry.
Trial and error..

Well. I think we have this thing figured out. Step 1. Acquire samples 2. Transition Tango 3. Variety, variety, variety (just in case) got it.

This plan came together like kittens on ipod cords. Thank you.
