Hello all... am new here today. My sweet 21 year old cat, who has recently recovered from 2 bladder infections (with antibiotics). .. is also suffering from weakening hind legs.... she has not been in pain until this morning.

I picked her up to take her outside for a little while, whilst i did the washing but when i put her down it was obvious her back R leg was very very painful ;"(   i have her booked in at vet this afternoon but in meantime i thought i would see if similar has happened to anyone else?  could i have broken something? dislocated?? any thoughts would be very appreciated... I am well aware she cant live forever... but I almost feel reluctant to even take her for check up- incase euthenasia is advised.... i would rather have vet come to home. If its just a sprain maybe some rest would be enough? she has moved around....but very obvious limp... and i can see she is not her happy self..... my heart is breaking..... for my bettyboo

Oh, sweetheart.  I'm sorry to hear this.  At this age, it could be anything.  She's had a good long life and I hope she has many more years with you.

Hopefully, the vet will be able to help her.  You are in my thoughts!

My kitty sprained his cruciate ligament very seriously when he was 14 years old. Limped badly. Surgery not advised as cats apparently heal very well from such injuries with rest. I put him in a room with no furniture so he could not jump, and a few months later, he was completely healed.

Best wishes for a good recovery.

It could be a lot of different things.  As Scarlett mentioned if it's like a cruciate injury, my Cedes did that when she was about a year old, with cage rest she healed on her own.  At her age it could also be arthritis causing her to limp, my 7 year old boy has arthritis in his joints and limps on his front leg because of it.  I have him on pain meds as well as natural supplements and homeopathic remedies, it's helped out a lot.

No the thing is.... she HAS been limping... and she is obviously old,  and her hips are weak... this has happened gradually over time it is not sudden.

What freaked me out was that after i picked her up (this morning)  it seemed as if i had injured her badly.... and I was searching for clues as to what I 'might'  have done to her in this fragile state... but its ok ITS OK ....for now guys... she seems to have recovered!  ( back to her usual slight limp) and she is no longer crying!!

....seems i have not done her a permanent damage..(oh joy!!! joy!!!)

I have postponed the vet trip this afternoon and now monitoring her .... and I think if anything, I'd rather not stress her with a vet visit' today. Specially after what she went through this morning...  sigh.... thank you universe  :)
