That is a pity - people like that are such poopieheads.I can never understand why some folks don't try to think before saying something, or think it is ok to openly say certain things without basis for it. With friends/family, they should comprehend that it bothers you...I mean, how would they feel if you rudely dumped on all the stuff they love? Maybe with luck and that in mind, they would back off.

It's undersandable that it is fustrating and even very hurtful. Can relate in many ways!

I'm sure your kitty is a beauty

No such thing as an ugly cat - just ugly people who make stupid and cruel remarks.

As many have already said, there is no such thing as an ugly cat! I think that any friend who would say this to you is not worth being called a friend.

I'd love to see pics of your kitty too, unique markings are so much fun!

Well I guess they should be glad it's not their cat then. But like others I want to see a picture.

People are so rude! If anyone dared to call my Roxy ugly, I too would probably have some choice words for them!
Your kitty is beautiful, it's those other people's view which are ugly. xx

These people are not "friends". They say stuff like that to hurt you. Friends do not deliberately hurt friends. Find some new friends.

(edit)On second thought, if you are determined to keep these people in your life you need to learn to laugh them off. Obviously their opinions of your cat are not worthy of you attention. Laugh at them. YOU know your cat is beautiful, who cares what they think. They are acting like kindergartners. You be the adult. :)

My old cat, Gracie (RIP), was referred to at the barn as "ugly grey cat", "little grey cat", and "yucky face" because of her infected and weeping mouth and eyes, permanent scowl and her tiny and bony body.

While I may agree that she had resting grumpy face, I thought she was beautiful, inside and out :)

Here she is... What you don't know is how loudly she was purring after being brushed and loved on by me :,) This was about a month before she died...

I know this original post is a little old, but I stumbled upon this thread recently did to the fact that my cat is going through the same thing. My cat, Millie was 6 weeks when I adopted her, falling in love instantly. She's a brown tortoise shell Kitty. She's 7 years old now, and some of the people i love have been saying not so nice things about her. One of them said that if I hadn't adopted her, she would have been put down because she's so ugly. Hearing this broke my heart. I love my Kitty so much, she's so sweet

Everyone, don't be dismayed by their remarks. They just don't know that other people are saying the same thing about them :banana1:

Sorry to hear

Wow, that is pretty cold. I love Tortishell cat's. They have a beautiful temperament unlike some people I know. Just tell them they are being rude!

Millie, has more compassion in her little toe than that person has in their whole body. ((((hugs))). Sending positive vibes.

I have a "friend" who absolutely hates all animals. She's terrified of every animal on earth, and she can't stand the fact that I have cats and is constantly calling me "crazy cat lady" and she doesn't mean it in a funny way either.  She's never been to my apartment because I refuse to lock up my cats to accommodate her. They live here, and they have the run of the place. I refuse to lock them up in a room so someone can visit me.

She's always making nasty comments about my cats and cats in general.  She can't or won't understand that I consider my cats my kids and I would do anything, including move, which I did recently, in order to accommodate them.   One day she was going at me about my cats and saying some horrible things, so I turned the table and started saying the same things about her son.  She got angry with me. I told her that what she is feeling is how I feel when she disses my cats to me.  That didn't even phase her.  She just doesn't care.

If someone called my kitties ugly, they better be awfully good-looking themselves.  Because if they are not, they can't compare to how handsome cats are.  If they said that my cat was so unattractive that they would have been put down if I did not adopt them, I would say that it was good their mother and father did not feel the same way.  Because that person would have been put down early!

My cats are my family.  If you start in on my family, the gloves come off!

Thanks everyone for responding. Unfortunately the kitty that I started this thread about has since passed away, due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He was and will always be beautiful to me!

When we had someone come over to give us an estimate on some work for our house he saw our persian cat and remarked, "his face looks like it was rear ended by the back of a bus!"  My jaw must have dropped 10 ft. and obviously we didn't hire him.

There is a recent study that suggests that dogs may actually understand some of human speech - not just the intonation but the meaning of words.  It's not a giant stretch to infer that cats may share the same ability.  I don't allow anyone to speak rudely to my companions.

I had a vet tell me that my cat Roger had a big nose. I thought that was rude coming from a vet. Roger was a very handsome red boy.
