We adopted a young cat just over 10 weeks ago. I presumed she was already pregnant when we got her once she started showing symptoms but obviously she wasn't. I have a pretty good idea of how far along she is. I have been able to feel the kittens moving just by placing my hand lightly on her tummy for just over a week now (actually it was the first time I tried). I can now see them moving around quite clearly for approx a week. Her nipples are bright pink & are starting to swell with milk. She hasn't made a best that I am aware of & isn't really showing signs that labour could be near? I estimated her to be 9weeks a week ago? Why no kittens?

Is she pacing at all? Still eating? From your description of her body it sounds like it will be soon. Have you set up a birthing bed/box for her?

As to your question, I suppose she got pregnant after you adopted her. Is that possible?

Yes I think she must have. No pacing & she is still eating regularly. I have set up a few birthing boxes & even layered under my bed with news paper & an old sheet as she seems to retreat under there sometimes. I guess it's just the waiting game from here :/ I think im more anxious waiting for her kittens then I was waiting for my own daughters arival haha

Still no kittens. She is still being a little piggy too, eating small amounts every hour or so. Honestly her belly is so full, I hope its not much longer.

Still no kittens :( im actually starting to worry. She has past the 3rd due date I estimated. Her nipples and the skin around them are an extremely bright pink. Kittens are still active inside & she is still eating a lot but still no apparent signs of labour. Will be sure to keep you updated. Im sure ill be freaking out when she finally does go into labour!

So, I always err on the side of extreme caution when it comes to queens, but if you are pretty sure she is overdue by more than a few days, I would take her to see a vet.  I know it's hard because you don't know the exact day she became pregnant, but cats deliver at the 9-week mark give or take a few days almost without exception, and a cat delivering more than a few days late or early can very often lead to complications, sometimes serious or life-threatening ones for mom or kittens. It is definitely a good sign that you can tell the kittens are still active, but if I were you  I'd seriously consider a vet visit.  The vet would probably also be able to give you a more accurate idea of whether she is in fact overdue or not.

Sorry my internet has been down. Today she has been eating grass, panting, rubbing herself on the ground & anything insight! She is snacking but hardly. Could today be the day? :)

It's very possible.  I would say if she doesn't have kittens in the next 24 hours she really needs to see a vet to make sure everything is okay.  She looks awfully small for such a large belly.  The kittens could be too big to birth naturally.

Hi all :) so we had a check up at the vets yesterday (monday). She wasn't as far along as I suspected (thankfully) but she is definitely in the end & ready to go. The vet wasn't convinced he needed to intervene with the pregnancy as the kittens were active & "kitty" seemed happy. However, if she hasn't had them by Monday he would like to see her again for possible intervention.

I currently have her confined in our spare room, curtains drawn, litter box near the door & nesting box behind the bed, food & water close to bed. She seems quite happy in there. She has even suspected the nesting box a few times (first time she has even been slightly interested).
