Hi everybody, long time cat lover here. I've had lots of cats throughout my lifetime. Today, I adopted this black and white 3 month old male. I've named him Pepe. I got him from a PJ's Pet Center here in Pickering, Ontario, Canada. He came with his first shots and deworming. I'm taking him to a vet on Tuesday to make sure everything's ok, and to set dates for next shots, neutering, etc. I live on the 14th floor so he will be an indoor cat for life.

I realized after feeding him on this floor mat that it might not be a good idea, as his wet food spills over the sides of the plate and lands on the mat, and then he eats it. I worry he could ingest fibers from the mat. I'm swapping it out for a plastic mat but in the meantime I'm just going to use a baking sheet.

I want to go all out with this cat. I already bought him a little cat condo, and if he likes it, I'll get him a bigger one. I'd like to know what the best possible dry and wet cat foods are. I'm assuming I'd have to order them online, right? I only buy the best for my fish and my parrot, so I want the same for my cat. In the past I used Pet Valu's house brand food but I'm sure better stuff is out there.

Does he qualify as a tuxedo cat if his whole legs are white? Or does he have to have black legs with white "boots" to qualify as a tuxedo? I've had 2 tuxedo cats in the past and I picked this one because he was sort of tuxedo like but I'm not sure he's a true tuxedo.

Thanks for reading!

Aw, what an adorable little guy!  I really don't know what constitutes a 'true' tuxedo so I can't help with your question, but I wanted to welcome you to the site.
Regarding the 'best' food, it's not an easy question to answer.  Every kitty is different and what's good for one cat doesn't work for another.  I tried a new 'premium' food recently and one of my kitties vomited it up consistently, I guess he was allergic to it.  This website has some good starter information:  http://www.catinfo.org/?link=cannedfoods.  I know other folks will come along with their thoughts and opinions.

Here's a link to a good article about choosing cat food:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/choosing-the-right-food-for-your-cat

Pepe is a lucky little kitty with you giving him such a good start!

What a pretty cat. Not sure about the tuxedo question either. As for best foods, I recommend as much wet food as you can afford. It is very difficult to find a species-appropriate dry food, and dry food does not provide the moisture that cats need.

I was wondering about that. Thing is, dry food is so much more affordable. I'll try keeping him on exclusively wet food.

He climbed the Christmas tree.

He is adorable.  As for the feeding.  Canned food is always best as cats need a lot of moisture in their diets.  This is one of my favorite websites with information about cat nutrition, it is written by a Veterinarian.  http://catinfo.org/
