I took little Tulani, my foster kitten, to the vet today to have her mouth looked at and I found out a couple of surprising things. One thing is that this little 3 pound kitten I thought was a 3-months old isn't 3 months at all. She's at least 6-7 months old! She's just very, very small for her age. The other thing I found out is that what I thought was a deformity is not a deformity - it's an injury! Somehow her bottom lip that is supposed to be attached to her gums have been ripped off and is no longer attached. The vet thought she may have been hit by a car and another rescuer who lives in the area where she's from thinks that she may have ended up in some jerk's trap because apparently trapping unwanted cats is popular there. I can't imagine the pain this baby went through when her lip was ripped off. It's quite likely that her small size is related to her injury due to her having had a hard time to eat.

Unfortunately she can't live with her lip like this and will need surgery, very expensive surgery. We're going to have to raise the money to get that done quickly. If anyone is willing to make a donation please let me know. I'm going to set up a fundraiser for her as soon as I know for sure how much I need to raise. If she doesn't have the surgery there is a high risk that her gum tissue could die which would kill her. She's such a wonderful little girl who has been through so much in her short life and she deserves the help she needs. She will not be able to get the surgery without donations.

Here is a pic of the pretty girl, just because...(-:

I'm so sorry to hear it's an injury. I wish I had the money to donate, but I do wish you much luck in your efforts. When you have a link I will surely share it through my social media.

I am sorry to hear that little Tulani went through such a traumatic experience. She is very adorable! Thank goodness she has you to care for her now. :rub: I wish I could donate some funds, but I just don't have the money.

I am curious: what all would the surgery entail? Can they reconstruct her lower lip with existing skin or graft skin from another area, or.....?

The poor little thing. She must be tough to have survived that. :vibes::vibes::vibes: that that can be fixed.

If you set up a donation page for her, you can post in the Cats S.O.S forum for donations:

I want to witness and assure, Ziggy´s mom is a rescuer and fosterer for real.  A long standing forumist here too.

We usually arent fond of any money raisings, as they are very often scams. And the fundraisers typically have registered just for the fundraising..

But this here call is a real one, and entirely legitime.

Im hereby sending *vibes* and *best wishes* for Tulani and her wonderful foster mom and protector.

Thanks StefanZ. Yes, I'm "the real deal",
. I would definitely provide proof if anyone wanted to donate towards Tulani's care and I would recommend that anyone would request that before they donate over the internet. There are so many scammers out there targeting animal lovers.

Fortunately it looks like we won't have to hold a fundraiser for Tulani. Another rescue referred me to their vet who has experience repairing these kinds of injuries, which I've found out are called lip avulsions. The vet is doing the procedure at a reduced cost and the other rescue, which is bigger and better funded than us, will help with the bill. So far so good. Please send some good vibes to Tulani for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

I am so glad she is getting the surgery that will give her a chance.  A sweet kitty that has been tough enough to survive what she has been through certainly deserves a chance.

Aww....poor Tulani...such a brave girl she is for all that she's endured! I'm so glad to hear that a vet is willing to help out at a reduced cost.

Many, many vibes that surgery is successful!

Glad it is fixable and sorry to hear it is going to be an expensive procedure. Does the kitten have any insurance? That would helped alleviating the financial burden a lot!
