Thank you! I was pleased with that photo considering it was taken with a cell phone camera! I just got a new camera for Christmas and can't wait to start experimenting with it.

Beautiful pictures and such gorgeous cats. I'll have to get my camera out next time it snows.

What a wonderful pics, taylerhill's curious cat sitting on rustic fence, with beautiful sky, that photo shows how it is not the cameras features, price tag but more of that there is a camera to take pictures with, that truly counts.

Of course mobile phone cameras have come a long way, some speculate that cheaper pocket cams will soon be sitting on shop shelves as mobile phone cameras are becoming better.

Shintari's 2nd shot is just marvelous, kitten looks like if concentrating very hard and at last one cat seem to belong to snowy scenery as cows belong to countryside scenery, that is truly a snow cat :)

I really do enjoy seeing cats playing in the snow, mine at least seem to be quite delighted when I open the door and there is snow, if there is not snow they seem not so lively at all, but when there is snow they rush and leap to enjoy it, especially fresh snow, sometimes they even roll on their back in the snow, showing their enjoyment.

They adapt incredible well and that also makes these photos so great, they so how amazing creatures they are, adjusting from hot deserts to cold snow.

My male cat Benjamin loves snow and his sisters aurora and jinxie will put up with it, Benjamin will bury himself and dive into snow banks but th. Girls would rather be on the shoveled driveway

Managed to partly save this shot, one can almost feel that what is coming next when looking at this shot, only thing was that there did not come anything next, they just walked to different directions, until bit later they decided it was good time to have a little chase around:
Love this pic! You caught a perfect moment! Talk about camouflage!

All your pics are awesome! The kitties are beautiful

Maia is terrified of the hallway of our apartment building, her camouflage talent is hiding in the bathtub, or in the plants on the kitchen table

He has indeed very good camouflage, he can hide even on flat ground if there is no snow, quite impossible to find him, so I just wait until he finds me when it is time to go back indoors :D

He is somewhat trained one, he knows when it is time to get inside for eating :lol3:

Bit dark picture, I did modify Pentax K mount lens to fit into Nikon F mount, it was bit after 4am when I got to test it, so not much light, but that old 50mm lens does work quite well and I kind of like that one as it shows how flexible they are, also 150W halogen from 2nd floor height did create quite interesting light.

Snow comes and snow goes, but forecast is that colder times become before next weekend.

Loved seeing all these beautiful winter cat photos.  I don't have any to share since I don't let Autumn outdoors, ever.

I did attempt that tactic, but one of mine gets very depressed indoors only, so much that he actually gets sick, so I thought that it is better life for him if he spends time outdoors hunting mice and as two others are quite social, I gradually let them too, so that one is not so bored and also with three of them around no single feral cat or even Lynx comes near the yard anymore.

They swapped parts today and black one was stalking while brown one was being stalked :D

Note how black cats tail is on one side only, he is placing tail to side opposite of which he is about to turn next, to counterbalance. If he would be walking or running he would move tail to side he is about to turn, but for leaping it is opposite side to make easier to turn in small space and also to easier roll on back during the leap so he could bunny kick other one from below.

However other one just made impression of not noticing, he was fully aware of black one's intentions and easily counteract him.

They play a lot of such games and climb fences and poles after few stalking attempts, they need to burn that excitement off somehow I guess.

84 pics and only one worthwhile to post, most had no focus as auto focusing failed at critical moment, very frustrating.

I was cutting and chopping firewood, then saw cats playing at forest, got my camera and attempted to take pics, but they were quite elusive, however all of sudden they were back at yard, they can travel really well under your nose without showing up, so I took this pic, about 15 meters (I guess that is near 45 feet?) away while sun has been set and very cloudy weather.

I had to use ISO6400 and 1/40s shutter speed, using vintage Polaris 85-205mm lens @ 85mm and f/3.6, compared to my other telephoto this old glass is really good, heavy, does not focus to infinity, only very stiff manual focus, but it is constant f3.6 up to max 205mm, has aperture ring and has very little of purple fringing if at all even at wide open. With those settings camera did 'see' pretty much same as I could if not even bit better. I think that those lenses sell for 10-15 at ebay, but they need T2 adapter and I have not found one with glass so I can't focus to infinity, but when taking pics on yard, that is capable to take pics across the yard and it is fine there.

This was shot handheld.

Oh and we did finally got some snow, not many days ago, cats love that temperatures are much warmer now, no -25C anymore, but more of 0C. Problem is that they love it so much that they go exploring where I can not see them so taking pics is bit challenging.

In case you can't spot Miuku (the cat) in pic, he is right from red pole, those colors of his are pretty good camouflage now as there is bit of snow, but still at forest there are dark spots, when he is still, it is really good blend, only his red nose is a telltale sign together with those bright eyes.

Picture of Camelot from a couple years ago, back when he used to go outside/barn during the day (He is now a fulltime indoor kitty. He isn't complaining
)

Lovely outdoor shots, J!

Camelot must have been quite difficult to spot from the snow, I tend to see Miuku mostly too late, unless he is in his friendly mode which he has today :D

Took few pics today, bit slow manual focus in that nearly 40 years old lens, but other than that it is really nice one :

We've had a lot of snow this weekend. 54 cm between Friday night and Sunday morning.

7 am Sunday, looking east.

Looking west.

Looking towards Fuji San.

Freya wasn't sure about it.

 But Hiro dove straight in.

Hiro and Freya set off to explore.

Freya, Hiro and Jiro.

Tom Kitten has seen it all before.

Carpet poses by the snow shovel.

Henry almost gets swallowed up.

Freya decides it's maybe not so bad after all.

Then she changes her mind "Let me back in!"

Norachan, that is a lot of snow, about 4 times of what we have up here and you got it so quickly too!

I hope there is not too much trouble from the snow, our news have been reporting bit about it but there is view of media and then there is reality, which are not always the same.

Expressions of your cats are interesting, quite different which my cats have, I wonder if cats have bit different language at different places of world?

I love that last shot of Freya, such perfect timing there to get that let me in meowing captured :)

Scary pics of mountains, can be dangerous at times, yet very beautiful at the same time.

Hi JTbo,

Yes, living in the mountains is beautiful but the weather is very harsh. We get heavy snows every winter, there is more forecast for tomorrow.

I think your cats all look very confident in the snow, like they know what they are doing. Carpet and Tom are two years old now, but the other cats in the pictures were born last April, so they had never seen snow before. Maybe that's why their expressions are different.

Do your cats get disorientated in the snow? Several of mine disappeared for a few days. I've heard that dogs get lost when it snows because they can't smell their way home. Maybe it's the same for cats.

Freya is very talkative and she's a real drama queen, always coming to tell me how terrible her life is because her food bowl is empty, it's cold outside, another cat is sitting in her favourite chair etc etc. Lots of the photo's I have of her were taken mid meow.
