Hi! I currently have 4 cats. 1 i got beginning of April, 2 from May, and my youngest in November. My aunt recently had her 8 yr old cat die from a lung disease. So of course i got freaked out bout my babies. My fluffiest (Eji) has audible breathing. He died shortly after we got him & my boyfriend did cpr. He's been fine since but we've always been able to hear him breath even if he's at the foot of them bed. He & Katsumi (& occasionally my other cats) seem to breath louder when you hold them. He always does it & it sounds like an angry huffing/breathing though he does dislike being held. (He's a grump/loner. Plays & accepts pets at his choosing). Is this normal? It's been going on since May but i worry.

My youngest breathes louder when asleep. And Katsumi when she gets extremely energetic after running, jumping, dashing, climbing, and flipping around. Aiko is our oldest & relatively quiet. They all at normal/healthy. They play etc & purr the second they see me.

One of my cats breathes where I can definitely hear him, mainly when he's sleeping.  It's almost like he's snoring, but not quite.  I attribute it to him being slightly overweight.

Panting after excessive playing is normal too, as long as it doesn't last very long.

As to the other loud breathing all the time, does it seem as he may be stuffed up (like a head cold).  If you have any doubts at all, you should simply talk to your Vet about it, especially since you stated your boyfriend had to do CPR on him to bring him back to life
.  Did you take him to the Vet after that occurence?  It's possible it's all related, but we have no way of knowing, particularly via the internet.  If he hasn't seen a Vet, that would be my first stop.

I agree with mrsgreenjeens. I'd have the vet take a look at him.

We took him to a vet who saw nothing wrong but gave him an oral steriod since he was weak after his brief "death". They said he may just have been a weak kitten. He's been fine since & plays, runs, jumps, meows, & purrs. But I've always been able to hear his loud breathing.

Scooter definitely snores when he is particularly comfortable. Estelle is usually purring faintly when we interact with her and so she has sort of a raspy breath sound. Simone is often aggravated and so she will huff at me.

I hear no problems in his chest. The breathing noise is in his nose. He doesn't breath really fast or slow. Its normal kitty breathing just noisier then my other cats.

Hello and Merry Christmas, I have 6 cats and 3 make sounds. Momma Pooch is 20 yo only weighs 5 1/2 lbs and snores if her mouth is close, you can hear her across the room, vet said all was ok with her URS. Sally is chubby at 7 yo, she sleeps with me and snores loud enough that I have to wake her up. Now Virgil 3 1/2 yo and 22 lbs has allergies and you can hear him when he is really congested, he wheezes, when asleep. So the vet suggested a cool mist humidifier in winter. He has been on steroids and a noticeable improvement plus weight gain. I already lost one cat due to heart failure at 5 yo because of steroids which caused Diabetis which cause his heart failure. So I passed on over doing the steroids. Virgil is good every morning he comes in the bathroom with me when I shower sucking in the warm mist.
