Hi, I'm new to this site.

I've had my young cat Bussi about a month. She's around 6-7 months, and an indoor cat. She seems very happy and loves human company, so I don't really have a question as such. Guess I'm just looking for any advice on female indoors cats of this age! ... :D

She's is at the age when most vets (around my area anyway) will spay or neuter dogs/cats. Having her spayed will cut down on many hormone related behavioural issues (granted even a spayed female cat cat and will spray if they are stressed), as well as cut down on the chance of some cancers later in life. Few tips for a happy cat:

1. Give her a varied diet that includes greens that should would naturally find outdoors. You can find cat grass and cat greens at your local pet store or online.

2. Try hiding her treats or greens around the house to give her time to search and "hunt" for her meals.

3. Interactive toys are always wonderful, especially if she is the only cat in your household.

4. Cats can be taught tricks and many pick up on them right away. That will help improve your bond.

5. Provide her a den where she can retreat or sleep in.

6. If you have houseplants try to find a list online of houseplants that are potentially toxic to cats. Cats love to chew on greens are few are picky about what kind they will chew/shred.

Good luck with your kitty :)

Welcome! Is that Bussi in your avatar pic? I’m glad to hear he’s an indoor cat. It’s also nice to hear he is so well tempered. But, just because your cat is indoors, doesn’t mean he won’t need flea prevention! I use Frontline Plus, but I’m switching to Revolution as it also prevents heartworm disease, kills fleas & flea eggs, kills ticks, and kills roundworms and hookworms.

Great!  Thank you... She's been wormed and de-fleaed.

I'm glad you mentioned the spaying, too... I suppose it is a must. I remember my childhood cat (Mandu) turned pretty aloof after being spayed, so I was hoping to avoid it... I guess it is important, though.

I have grassbits & dental bits, which Bussi adores!I I bought them after I found her nibbling on a cactus seemingly unpeturbed!! Will definitely play the hunting game with her... I'm also intrigued about tricks! I've noticed she is inquisitive and learns very quickly (for example when I was holding her in front of the bathroom mirror; She looked at the tiles behind us in the reflection, and turned round and looked at the real tiles behind us)

Thanks for your answers

Here's an article on keeping cats from getting bored:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/beating-boredom-what-indoor-cat-owners-need-to-know

Also, you can actually train a cat using a clicker.  I've been thinking about doing that, but I've got THREE cats, and can't quite figure out how to do it with all of them together

BTW, spaying doesn't necessarily make cats aloof.  Actually, I've never encountered that before, happily.

Thank you, Mrs Greenjeens!

Great to have links I can refer to :) I've been trying to teach the 'paw' trick this evening, still a way to go.. but I'm sure she's smart enough! Could be interesting with 3.
The video was so sweet.

Also tried hiding grassbits around the house, she found them all... but went around for another ten minutes or so looking for more!! Should keep her busy while I'm out!

Thank you all for being kind enough to take the time to help... Hopefully I'll be able to contribute before long!!

Mandu. xxx
