I have been trying to toilet train the cats, at first all 3 were fine but now I think one had an accident and refuses to use the loo so she now uses a tray, but as you  can imagine all 3 cats now use the tray instead. I clean it throughout the day I just wondered if there's any self self cleaning trays which people rate and what litter is best to use.

I have 8 cats and 3 Cat Genie litter boxes. They scoop, wash, disinfect and dry the litter on it's own. The litter isn't actually litter, it's some sort of small, non-absorbent plastic granules especially made for the Cat Genie. You can program them when to run, the new ones have "Cat Activation" which automatically scoops and cleans the box 10 minutes after a cat uses it. You never have to throw out the granules, as they always get cleaned, just replenish them as needed. I've had Cat Genies for more than 7 years and I love them - I'd never go back to traditional litter. Plus, the company's customer service is outstanding!!

Check them out at www.catgenie.com. None of my cats had any trouble adjusting to the Cat Genie from a traditional litter box. I got them because like you, I was trying to toilet train my cats. Once I was up to 8 of them, it seemed futile to keep trying to train them. If one didn't take to it, I'd always have a traditional litter box, so what was the point of trying to train them? The Cat Genie was the next best thing.

If you have the space for them, I highly recommend them. They hook up to your water supply from either your toilet or washing machine water supply, with a t-junction pipe they include. As for my 3, I have one in the 2nd bathroom stand up shower (that I never used anyway) that drains down the shower drain, one in my laundry room, and the 3rd in my bathroom, that drains into my toilet. I just have to remember to flush it a few extra times. :-)

I tried the self scooping boxes before buying the Cat Genie, and I didn't like them. If the cat didn't poop in the middle of the box the scoop would miss it, or HEAVEN FORBID they had runny poops, it just made a disgusting, smeary mess. Plus, the urine absorbing pads didn't absorb all that much. They turned out to be more of a pain to clean than a regular box!

And no, LOL, I don't work for Cat Genie and I don't get paid to recommend them. I just really, REALLY like their product! :-)

We have the Cat Genie in our reviews section -

http://www.thecatsite.com/products/catgenie-120-self-washing-self-flushing-cat-box

And also -

EDIT (because my cat actually did hit enter before I was done!) -

It's a great review 8whiskers. Maybe you can add it in the reviews section itself? That was it will be accessible in the future for anyone who's interested in this product. Thanks!

In the end I went for a smart sift box as the cat genie was out of my range had it for a couple of weeks now and they love it, all 3 cats use it which means no extra trays around the house, obviously with 3 using it we have to change out the waste tray more often but it's made life so much easier. Plus at £50 with P+P it was relatively cheap and very sturdy and it works just fine with the pets at home clumping litter so don't have to go crazy with expensive litter.
