I almost hit a kitten on my way home from work on the highway. She couldn't walk, was very skinny and taken from her mother. We took her home, read up on how to take care of her, took her to the vet 2 weeks ago to get de-wormed and they said she was as healthy as a horse. As of yesterday, she puked up  pink stomach acid (which  my older siamese cat does) and she had blood in her stool. (like my older cat) Then at 4 A.M. She started having a seizure every 30 minutes. Took her to emergency and they want to run test after test and told us EVERYTHING that could be wrong will be FATAL. does ANYONE have experience in any of this??>

Sounds awful, I am so sorry.  This little kitten sounds so sick.

You say of your other cats that one has the pink stomach acid and the other blood in stools?  Have they seen the vet also and do you know what is causing their symptoms?  Has your kitten been in contact with your other cats since you brought him in to your home as he could have picked something up from them? Kittens are very vulnerable to infection, do you know how old she is?

I lived in a house many years ago where the owner had taken in a little kitten that was rescue and several months later it started having seizures badly so we took it to an emergency vet.  It was diagnosed with FHV and severe neurological damage and we couldn't keep him going, he was just too sick.

No, but best wishes to you both.  What a horrible situation to be in for both of you.  At least she has someone who cared enough about her to get her some help.  Pink stomach acid I do have experience with, the pink is usually blood.  My cat Smith did this a lot.  The blood could actually be coming from her esophagus, which could indicate that she had been doing a lot of vomiting before you found her and has ulcerated her esophagus.

Blood in the stool if bright red means lower GI irritation.   Im sure they already told you those things, though.  As to what may be causing it, there is a long list.  Coronavirus comes to mind.  Giardia, also.  Smith had that, and he had the same symptoms, just not the seizures.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_coronavirus

If your Siamese also vomits pink, the kitten might have picked something up from her that her young immune system just cannot handle.

Im so sorry you are going through this, I really hope it all comes out well for you both.

I have an older siamese who I think has a respiratory tract infection, but the vet insists it's an absessed tooth, and that he is healthy. All the pets in my house got little "colds" with sneezing and coughing - even my two dogs when i brought the kitten home. I had the dog at petsmart for a hair do, and the sickness came around the same time.. But all my other cats (there's 3) are  in good health, all vaccinated.

Her seizures have not been happening as often, she is in emergency still right now. Sitting and waiting to hear what is going on..

I was thinking maybe she did pick something up from them, but they all just got all their shots again, and the only health issue with them is a slight heart murmer, and whatever sickness was brought into the house and passed from pet to pet. I really hope that she will be okay. The vet said they would call if she has been having more seizures, havent heard anything since 6 A.M.

Sorry, I misunderstood this part I think.
As of yesterday, she puked up  pink stomach acid (which  my older siamese cat does) and she had blood in her stool. (like my older cat)
I thought that meant that your Siamese had been puking up pink with blood in her stool before you got the kitten.  But you are saying that the kitten got your Siamese sick if I am understanding correctly?

If your pets all have their shots, then it probably isnt Feline distemper, she should not be able to pass that to them if they are vaccinated against it.  I had a similar experience when I adopted my cat Emmitt the city pound, he got my other existing pets sick, and several of them ended up in the hospital on supportive treatment, fluids, etc.  They never did give me a firm diagnosis, but I heard later that they had done a complete wipe of the animals in the pound because of something which I THINK was panleukopenia.

Hopefully, its something easily treatable.  Smith got Giardia and he had vomiting and bloody stool, and over time, as the vomiting went on, it made his vomit pink because it irritated his esophagus.

Im still thinking good thoughts for you.  Its so scary when something bad is happening and you do not know what it is.  Ive never had an animal have seizures,  that would really terrify me.

Much love to you and your babies.

We got the news she has acute kidney failure. They aren't sure what from. She might of had it since she was born.

Do I understand you correctly that your older cat has the same symptoms? Did the cats get into something poisonous?

Sorry she is so sick and thinking of you.  Also wondering about what  @peaches08 has asked.  I hope not, and that your older cats are strong and getting better.

Does your Siamese still have the same symptoms?

If your older cat has these symptoms (before the kitten intro)...could it be the food?  If this is an ongoing problem with the older cat, perhaps it is a food intolerance (to a common feline allergen, many of which are in pet food - eg, corn, wheat, gluten etc).  I'm not sure how it would account for such a quick (2 weeks right?) decline in the kitten, except that they are so much smaller.

Alternatively, if this is all recent onset for both cats, there have been some poisoning scares recently with pet food which could cause acute kidney failure.

Lots of thoughts coming your way.

What I meant, was when the kitten came in to the house, was the same time we took our dog to get groomed at pets mart so on of the two brought in a sickness and all my pets got sick. My siamese usually gets little colds and sneezing randomly and sometimes pukes up pink, little blood in his stool, but after all the tests he is fine. They can't find anything wrong with him, and he is still acting normal. My other pets are okay.

I have to check that on the food, we just had to switch over because they recalled our old brand.... I will check whats in their food.

We've been visiting and calling the vet constantly, and her kidneys are slowley getting back to normal, she's getting up and playing around, and hasn't had a seizure since 8 am yesterday. I don't know what she could have gotten in to, we have 6 pets in the house, and try to always keep everything harmful out of reach and in cupboards. thankk you for your support and suggestions

I have the same problem, they couldn't diagnose her at first. They thought it was kitty aids, tested forfiv/felv, they tested for any virus they could. But now it is acute kidney failure. and I don't know if she was born with it, but we watch her constantly. we go with her everywhere she runs to.

she's doing better though. her potassium levels went through the roof, so that didn't help her kidneys either. She was on IV's with dextrose and insulin. She was on clindepicin (i don't know how to spell that) and that was a little toxic for her so they switched to amoxicillin. She wasn't in any pain either, so that was good to hear. This was such a freak thing to happen. :(

I hope they figure out what sent her into kidney failure. Many vibes that she pulls through with little damage.

Good to hear that this little baby is starting to improve. If the vet diagnoised it as acute kidney failure depending on what caused it , there is a possibility that things may be reversed. I am adding a link from Tanya's comprehensive guide to feline ckd http://felinecrf.org/acute_kidney_injury.htm. This page is on acute kidney injury. If she does end up having lasting injuries to the kidneys and is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease there is a lot of information on the site that will be helpful. The amount of information on the site can be overwhelming, when I was first directed to it I bookmarked it and came back to it for several weeks after my 13 year old boy was diagnosed with ckd. Hoping that she continues to make strides in her recovery and keep us updated on how things are going.

Good to hear your baby is picking up a bit and there had been a gap since a seizure has happened.  Fingers crossed she wiill get well enough to come home to you all soon and that your other fur family over come what ever it has been that affected them.  It all sounds very strange.  Very worrying for you.

Sending vibes for you all, but especially kitten still at the vet surgery.

@ peaches08, barbh and MServant:

Thank you for all of the info and support! So helpful, I am so happy I found this site. It really helps!!!!

Just going to let you know, I visited her today at the vet and she was purring, meowing, responding to her name and trying to nuzzle in our necks like she usually does. Her kidneys were 50% back to normal, and she was recovering quickly.

BUT

I just got a call from the vet, and they did more bloodwork after I left.... she is 100% RECOVERED HER BLOOD WORK IS PERFECT AND SHE IS EATING AND DRINKING! They're just trying to wean her off her IV of dextrose to see if she can handle herself on her own. AND THERE IS NO LONG TERM BRAIN DAMAGE OR KIDNEY DAMAGE.

I told the vet everything i could have imagined she would get into, my dogs were sick so i would give them robitussin (the cough medicine) and maybe she got in to that, they said that couldn't be it, and laundry detergent, because maybe some dripped on the floor, and that would have caused mroe of a gastric vomiting fit, and also i thought maybe the floor stripper we used a week and a half ago. And that was a no, it would have hit her right then and there. So I have no clue what she got in to, but before she comes home tomorrow i am kitten proofing this whole entire home.

i am so happy

That is great news :D Hopefully everything will go well with getting her off the iv drip. Definitly odd of what she may have gotten into, if no other possibilities are found than I would really start wondering if it wasn't something in the food. Hopefully you will have your little girl home with you soon and having her cause all types of kitten havoc.

I cant wait until she is terrorizing the house again! And we are definetely switching their food. Kitten has to have "KD" for now, but we are switching afterwards. Stay away from anything with too much soy and fake ingredients.

So glad to hear the little kitten is recovering well!

Just curious, when she was at the vet 2 weeks ago to be de-wormed, what did they give her? Did they give her any other shots or medicines? I'm wondering if she had something then that could have set her kidneys off. There are reports of Metacam sending kitties into acute renal failure.
