Hi everyone,  I posted previously about my poor little kitten Jezebel who was peeing on the floor.  We thought it was just a problem with her getting house-trained (it was between ages 9 weeks to 15 weeks now), but it turns out the baby has crystalluria!  Poor thing!  We're getting her on medication as soon as the vet gets it (Friday hopefully), but in the meantime, what can I do?

I've read that switching to an all-wet diet is a good thing, so I'll be doing that.  Right now she eats about 80% dry grain-free food and 20% relatively cheap wet food.  The vet also recommended feeding her cranberry pills like women take for UTIs.

Any other suggestions for anything at all I should do?  Have you dealt with this issue before?  Any words of advice?

Thanks!

Here is my previous thread about the litter problems, which I hope to God will get fixed: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/265472/kitten-wont-pee-in-litter

And their intro post :)

Yes switch to an all wet food diet immediately! My cat has a history of crystals and he is on prescription wet food.

You're on the right track I think..   If she's eating wet food ok and keeping it down (and no troubles with the poop) then surely switching sooner rather than later will help faster.  Please don't wait too long as 80% dried is pretty much her whole diet.

I have a cat at the mo who is struggling with an UTI, or at least the symptoms and am mixing extra water in with every meal. I am also letting him eat a little more than he is supposed to - he is a greedy cat and is enjoying that part of it, but its the only way I can add even more liquid into his diet as he rarely drinks water.  I know I will be making trouble for the future when I cut back on his food again tho!  Our cat is also on some antibiotics that are supposed to help with irritation of the lining of the bladder. I think tho that it's the extra water over the last few weeks that's slowly helping. Good luck with your cat, I hope she feels better soon.

Extra water definitely helps cats with urinary crystals because it flushes out their systems of the crystals so they pass easily instead of block.
